4.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 16/20 Travlr (5399) - Washington, USA - JAN 7, 2010
Bottle at Strijdershuis, near the marketplace in Bruges.
Chestnut colored with a large tan head that settles slowly to reveal good lacing.
Aroma of scotch and malt with a background hint of spice.
Flavor begins with the malt and spice, then progresses to a sort of butterscotch, then a slightly bitter and dry finish. Nicely complex and interesting.
Decent enough body, a little light for the style.
Nice addition to the varied and interesting Strubbe range.

Dec 2010: Hoeve Bier - Biere de Ferma. This bottle was bought at the Noel Cuvelier farm/beershop in Abele near Poperinge.
Cork and caged 0.75 litre green bottle, poured into four tulip glasses in one single pour.
Almost clear amber in colour and looks, a small white head sat on top of the body.
The aroma was of Belgian yeasts and hops.
Hop bitterness and bite in the taste followed by a sweetness in the aftertaste.
Very drinkable, the 6.5% sat well within the brew and it just felt right and correct.

2.9 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20 DruncanVeasey (5150) - NUNEATON, Blue Square Prem, Warwickshire, ENGLAND - JAN 17, 2011
UPDATED: JAN 18, 2011 750ml bottle. Deep and coppery with a high, uneven head fed by torrential carbonation. The aroma has cherry sherbet and apple-flavoured confectionary, the flavour some teasing flecks of Flemish complexity (iron, wood, berry-like acidity), largely demolished by a brown sugar, apple bubblegum and grenadine sweetness impossible to really warm to. There’s also that mouth-drying, low cal soda hint suggesting artifical sweetener has been used- becoming unbearable over a pint of the stuff. Drinkable, but too sweet like a cup of tea with 3 sugars and a sweetener sweet. Frustrating beer; better than some of Strubbe’s other stinkers, but I’ll need a bottle of Punk to take the taste away.
