COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
This complex beer was brewed in cognac barrels that have contained cognac for at least 40 years. You will experience a mild alcohol aroma that is balanced by vanilla overtones coming from the wood and a fresh fruitiness reminiscent of apricots. The mouthfeel is velvety with flavors of honey coming through with every sip.

Bottle from the brewery. The beer is clearly present, but it is a sidekick to a strong edge of cognac. Delicate, dangerously drinkable. The aroma is sharper than the flavour. Hazy brass.

750 ml bottle boxed from my father in law. Pours a dark golden amber color with a medium sized off white head. The aroma and flavor have caramel, vanilla, oak, fruity notes favoring apples and peaches, cognac, some warming alcohol, some booze, fairly smooth at 12%. I don’t know how many of these I would buy on my own at $18 a pop.

Bottle @ RBBSG II. Courtesy of Dave. Thanks! Pours a hazy bright orange color with a quarter inch of white head. The smell is cherry, wood and medeiros. The taste follows ending with a dry finish. Medium body and nicely carbonated.

Bottle shared at Craft Ale House. Pours hazy dark brown with khaki head. Nose is oaky spirits, cognacy, molasses, cacao, fig. Tastes complex, with some heat up front, a nice oaky cognac flavor, cacao, wood, and tobacco. A bit sweeter than the armagnac version. This one was delicious.

Pours a hazy golden with a good head and nice lacing on the glass.

The aroma has a rich red apple character & is very reminiscent of calvados. It’s got dusty notes, comes off a touch sweet & a touch boozy but remains inviting.

The flavor has nice toasty oak and more cognac character than the calvados character featured in the nose. This is not to say that the flavor doesn’t certainly have some fleshy red apple to it, which is nice... the beer is lightly tart and has some honey forward notes although the sweetness is kept pretty well in check. The booziness level is nice and while the alcohol is noticeable I was surprised to see this one @ 12%.

Very special, unique and enjoyable. Most defiantly features the spirit barrel without letting the barrel get the best of the beer.

Bottle. Pours orange gold with white head. Nose and taste of vanilla, wood, cognac, alcohol soaked tone fruit, brown sugar, earth and candied fruit. Medium body. Better balance than expected from the Cognac barrels.

Pours a bright orange amber with a soft off white head of foam that wasn’t too tall and fell slowly and luxuriously to a thick layer and finally a ring and cap. Plenty of streaming effervescence and lighted glow from the body of the beer. Very attractive. Nose is soft belgian with a light sweet cognac over the top. A touch woody and earthy with deeply ripe stone fruits. Peaches and apricots drizzled with brandy. There’s some musk or must from the belgian character and some honey from the malt but neither of those is powerful enough to overtake the sublimely sweet ripe peach. Taste is drippy, sticky ripe peach with cognac poured over. The cognac which is somewhat subdued in the nose is more vivid on the palate. The wood from the barrel aging is perfect on the palate and adds depth and vibrance to the cognac flavor. The mineral qualities make the body soft and it’s a refreshing carbonation. The finish is dry and with a sweet lingering aftertaste with just the heat from the alcohol alongside the cognac flavor for a terrific authenticity.

This is a distinct beer that brings together the most delicate aspects of both a belgian blonde and a rich sweet cognac. Radiant and sweet. Well turned out and the perfect compliment for after a meal much like cognac and fruit is on their own. I served this after a pan seared veal rib chop lightly seasoned with only salt and pepper, roasted chick peas flavored with sea salt and rosemary and a green salad with a few fresh thyme leaves in a light lemon dressing .
