markwise (231), Orlando, Florida, USA Apr 9, 2008 This was a pretty good dunkel. It pours dark brown with a slight red tint, and has a small, off-white head. The aroma smells of nuts, sweet malt, and carmel (with some maple?). Goes down very easily. Smooth finish with slightly bitter tones.
kiefdog (358), Tampa, Florida, USA Jul 20, 2008 On tap at Lagerhaus (Tampa, FL). Pours a dark red brown with massive foamy off-white head. Excellent head retention and glass lacing. Aroma is interesting: some vegetable notes, sweet malt, toasted nuts, bread. Flavor is sour ripe fruit, sweet malt, raisins, plums, and some caramel (as the beer warms). Light to medium body with a slightly hoppy, bitter finish. gsmitty80 (505), Washington DC, USA Jul 19, 2008 Ah drink these out of a liter mug down at the black squirrel in DC. Traditional German dunkel with a great pour, head and aroma. Will be drinking many more of these in the future. Biddle_Brau (93), Midland Park, New Jersey, USA Jul 17, 2008 Poured amber/ruddy with dense white head. Aroma is of toasted malt, slightly caramel. This beer is rather thin and slightly astringent. Malt never steps up like I anticipated based on the aroma although there is a decent balance between the hops and malt. Astringency is a big drawback with this brew. pforei (328), USA Jul 14, 2008 Had this on tap before it and was much better. Slight green bottle skunk aroma upon opening, that dissipates after a few seconds. Unfortunately, not much taste at all afterwards. Faint caramel and bread. Thin. Suttree (2272), Knoxville, Tennessee, USA Jul 12, 2008 From a green bottle, which immediately causes concern - Clear reddish brown, with virtually no head. Nice earthy smell, with some dark bread and rum notes. Flavor is similiar, but mixed with some fruity notes. Surprisingly rough, bitter finish, which is welcome.
