3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
UPDATED: MAY 25, 2006 Tasted 19/05/2006. 355ml bottle from RW&S, Wellington.
Vibrant copper (Fritha reckons amber), bright, lightly carbonated, with a disappearing off-white head. Mild nose, but very pleasant, shows off caramel malts, spicy continental hops and a hint of lager yeast. Sweet and sappy malts blend well with with grassy spicy hops and end in a slightly astringent finish (probably the only downfall as it just leans away from perfectly balanced). I’ve seen these Hofbrau beers on the shelf for a couple of months now and the Maibock is a very pleasant surprise (thanks Fritha).
24/05/2006. On tap at the Malthouse, Wellington. Superb biscuity notes from the toasted malt. Upped aroma and overall impression 1 point each.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
On tap. Aroma piuttosto intenso di caramello, malto, miele d’acacia, leggermente erbaceo, erbe officinali. Colore ramato, schiuma beige fine e poco persistente. Gusto amabile, maltato, caramello e miele sono i primi palesarsi, sul finale leggermente amara da luppolo, pochissima tostatura. Abbastanza equilibrata molto rotonda, piena, calda alcolica. Equilibrata ed armonica.

3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
A bit of skunkiness in the nose (the beer was from a (green) bottle). Copper color. Sweet nose. Smooth caramel up front. Not very complex. A slight touch of alcohol in the finish. Comes off more as a session beer in terms of flavor and drinkability although its 7.2% ABV makes it anything but.

3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
"Not bad, not bad. A bit bready and sweet. The aroma has a hint of yeasty spiciness that the flavor does not. A good example of the style, but not quite a standout. Crisp and clean...cleaner on tap it seems. Good fall beer."
