By tradition, the first barrel of Maibock is tapped in the Hofbräuhaus in the last week of April, in time for the merry month of May. The success story of Munich’s oldest bock beer goes back as far as 1614. With its powerfully aromatic flavour and its alcoholic content of some 7.2% volume, Hofbräu Maibock marks one of the high points in the beer-lover’s calendar!

UPDATED: MAY 25, 2006 Tasted 19/05/2006. 355ml bottle from RW&S, Wellington. Vibrant copper (Fritha reckons amber), bright, lightly carbonated, with a disappearing off-white head. Mild nose, but very pleasant, shows off caramel malts, spicy continental hops and a hint of lager yeast. Sweet and sappy malts blend well with with grassy spicy hops and end in a slightly astringent finish (probably the only downfall as it just leans away from perfectly balanced). I’ve seen these Hofbrau beers on the shelf for a couple of months now and the Maibock is a very pleasant surprise (thanks Fritha). 24/05/2006. On tap at the Malthouse, Wellington. Superb biscuity notes from the toasted malt. Upped aroma and overall impression 1 point each.

Bottle - dark copper color with a creamy head. Malty, nutty, dried fruits, quite sweet and boozy. Okay, but not my favorite. Smoothness is lacking.

Tasted from draft. Pours a clear amber. Aroma is caramel, toffee, herbal. Taste is moderate to heavily sweet malt with a faint bitterness. Flavors of caramel, toffee, maple, nutty, earthy. Very good maibock. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Had a half liter at Estabrook Park Beergarden. Very hopped up brew with a malty flavor.

Klasyka, sporo słodu, sporo świeżego karmelu. Fajne ciało, gruba faktura. Aromat i smak przyjemne, ale bez szału. Jak na styl - ok, styl - trochę nuda.

Tap (Hofbräu Berlin, Berlin). Clear caramel color. Huge size, thick off-white head, stays. Metallic, sweet, malty in aroma. Sweet, metallic, hops, malty and caramel in taste. Sweet caramelly malts in aftertaste. Quite drinkable one.

On tap @ Hofbräuhaus, Starkbierzeit 2016. Édeskés, testes, mégis könnyen csúszott. Elég sűrű, de nem volt alkoholos. Kicsit olyan volt mint a winterzwickl.

I do not wax on poetically about beer but I do know the quality of a beer once tasted. This review is not about my tastes but reinforces the numbers, which are arbitrary.

From the bottle poured into Tuilp glass. Nice amber color and off white head. Nose of malt and grass. Taste is rich malty grassy herbal with faint alcoholic finish. Nice...

Clear bronze with little white head. Aroma: Dark fruits, caramel and much roast. Also alcohol. Taste is bitter, more alcohol. Very little sweetness. Texture is fizzy, feels like foam in the mouth. Overall too much alcohol, too much bitterness. Not my favourite.

kupfer- bis bronzefarben mit schöner weißer Schaumkrone. Der Bock ist ausgeprägt süßlich malzig, karamellig, leicht röstig und bitter. Gut!
