COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Dark beer existed in Bavaria long before light beer. This was the first type of beer to be brewed at Hofbräuhaus when it was founded. Today, when beer-lovers all over the world talk about dark beer, they usually mean a Munich style beer. Today, Hofbräu Dunkel - the archetypal Bavarian beer - is still as popular as ever. With its alcoholic content of around 5.5% volume and its spicy taste, it’s a refreshing beer that suits all kinds of occasion. A beer in the traditional Munich style!

Hazy chocolate in colour with an off-white head that sat and thinned on top like a time lapse video of male pattern baldness. Typical dunkel chocolate maltiness, dripping juicy figness. Just one of the most mouthwatering beer smells there is. Full bodied mouthfeel with tingly prickliness enduring. The flavour errs toward that chocolate and caramel milkshake. It’s got a good sweetish creamy taste to it that lingers along with cocoa powder to the finish. I could happily drink this beer for hours.

Pours a dark red color with a small tan head. Aroma of malt and sugar cane. Taste a little like brown sugar with bitterness to counterbalance. a very good and refreshing beer.

Aroma is nutty and spicy and even has some German pils skunk to it. Cherry color with plenty of fizz and tan head. Sweet malt with a bitter start and starchy finish.Lighter for a dunkel, really a classic dark lager. Better than Spaten’s dunkel? Absolutely.

Clear mahogany pour. Malt and yeast smell. Perhaps a roasted note or two? Sweet malt taste. Enjoyable beer during a phils game.

On tap, Hofbrauhaus, Munich. Served in a 1L dumpled mug. Dark ruby but a bit light body, sweety but a bit watery taste. Aftertaste is a bit like stone, like a stonebier or gösser zwickl.I have expected a lot more from it.

Bottle from Cavie. Red-brown pour with an off-white head. A 95 percentile dunkel that lets the skunk slip as soon as I pop the top. No bottle date. Green bottle. I shouldn’t be surprised. Aroma is skunk, roast, and chocolate, and cheap cigars. Taste is steamed veggies, roast, thin chocolate, and a little metallic.
