COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Dark beer existed in Bavaria long before light beer. This was the first type of beer to be brewed at Hofbräuhaus when it was founded. Today, when beer-lovers all over the world talk about dark beer, they usually mean a Munich style beer. Today, Hofbräu Dunkel - the archetypal Bavarian beer - is still as popular as ever. With its alcoholic content of around 5.5% volume and its spicy taste, it’s a refreshing beer that suits all kinds of occasion. A beer in the traditional Munich style!

A light rust color with aromatic malt notes. A little fruit and candy on the mid palate drives to a pure malt finish.

Poured from bottle. Clear medium brown color with some bubbly offwhite head. Aroma is sweet toffee caramel with a bit of sweet nuttiness. Flavor is typical sweet caramel malt with some doughiness and slight fruit flavor. Clean finish. Overall, nothing special.

Has a clear brown color. Aroma is mainly of malts with a little caramel. Taste is very malty. Also has a light aluminum, tofee, and soy sauce flavor. Slight bite in the end. Not too bad.

On tap during an Oktoberfest celebration. Pour was dark brown without much of a head. Aroma is pure malt. Mouth feel was thick and did not have much carbonation. Flavor was sweet with a bit of roasted malt and molasses mixed in. Easy to drink, but unremarkable.

Bottle: Poured a light clear burgundy color lager with a medium size foamy head with good retention and minimal lacing. Aroma of dry caramel malt with light toffee notes. Taste is drier then expected with some caramel and light molasses notes. Body is about average with OK carbonation. Not bad but really not a style that I dig.

Brownish/reddish body with a creamy head. No lacing and kind of thin looking. Smell is of caramel, raisins, and tons of malt. Taste was malty all the way through but left a slight bitter taste on the end. I would of liked more bitter to balance the sweet but still a pretty good beer.

Bottle. Pours a reddish-brown color with a light tan head. Aroma of malts, fruit and toffee. Has a roasted coffee kind of flavor in addition to forementioned aromas. Fairly light bodied. Pretty easy on the palate.

tap @ OTH. Pours brown, beige head. Aroma of caramel malts, some dark fruits coming across as strong and crystal malts. Flavor, malty, dark fruits; raisins, figs, dark malts, with light caramel, roasted finish. For a mass produced German beer, this is a fine and easy to drink beer fileld with good flavors.
