Dark beer existed in Bavaria long before light beer. This was the first type of beer to be brewed at Hofbräuhaus when it was founded. Today, when beer-lovers all over the world talk about dark beer, they usually mean a Munich style beer. Today, Hofbräu Dunkel - the archetypal Bavarian beer - is still as popular as ever. With its alcoholic content of around 5.5% volume and its spicy taste, it’s a refreshing beer that suits all kinds of occasion. A beer in the traditional Munich style!

Pours a dark brown/amber color with a beige head. Slightly roasted, sweat aroma. Taste was for me at least a little metallic and a little watery. It really kind of let me down. There were some roasted malts and caramel notes, but ultimately, this was not a very fun beer to drink for me.

Veyr nice in shape, great in sediment. Although it was a little tasteless, but I could sense the quality.

12 oz. bottle. Pours a deep amber brown with a tall, creamy light tan head. Light roasted malt notes, a little euro lager, light caramel and molasses in the nose. Medium carbonation with a medium-light mouthfeel. Malt sweetness, light roasted notes, caramel, and brown sugar on the palate. It has an interesting dryness that makes you want to take another drink. A light, pleasing bitterness on the back end. Short finish with decent lacing left. Not overly complex but nice and a real pleasure to drink.

Pours translucent brown with a ruby red hue and a light beige head. Very sweet caramel aroma with a hint of candied dates. The flavor is similar to the aroma, sweet caramel with some toffee and dried fruit. Pretty good beer but not as good as the one on tap at the Newport Hofbrauhaus.

Clear brown body with a fizzy tan head. Fairly sweet aroma of caramel and malt. Smooth entry leads to some decent carbonation on the palate. Like the aroma, the flavor is sweet overall. Caramel and toffee and just a touch of hoppy bitterness at the end. Very tasty and easy to drink.

Nice black beer with a lot of balance between sweetness and liquorice/ coffee. Got better as it warmed.

Pours clear mahogany into a shaker. Cola head dissipates to nothing in a flash. Mild caramel aromas. Crisp with sweet caramel upfront turning sharp and metallic in the cloying lasting finish.
