COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Dark beer existed in Bavaria long before light beer. This was the first type of beer to be brewed at Hofbräuhaus when it was founded. Today, when beer-lovers all over the world talk about dark beer, they usually mean a Munich style beer. Today, Hofbräu Dunkel - the archetypal Bavarian beer - is still as popular as ever. With its alcoholic content of around 5.5% volume and its spicy taste, it’s a refreshing beer that suits all kinds of occasion. A beer in the traditional Munich style!

UPDATED: NOV 30, 2014 50cl bottle at home. It pours a clean deep copper colour with a decent and lasting tan head. Aroma is very malty, caramel, some bread, but overall the aromas are somewhat muted. Taste is roasted malts, a lot of malts, some sweet caramel, somewhat watery and with a slight of bitterness at the finish. It’s moderate to light bodied with considerable carbonation and a clean and dry taste. For a dark type of beer it lacks the typical complex and rich flavors, but at least it has a malty and caramel character and it is very drinkable.

Bottle at the Criterion, Leicester. Nutty, metallic Dunkel. Thin body and clean. Refreshingly grainy and industrial. So, so fitting. Lovely to catch up with Wisey.
