COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Dark beer existed in Bavaria long before light beer. This was the first type of beer to be brewed at Hofbräuhaus when it was founded. Today, when beer-lovers all over the world talk about dark beer, they usually mean a Munich style beer. Today, Hofbräu Dunkel - the archetypal Bavarian beer - is still as popular as ever. With its alcoholic content of around 5.5% volume and its spicy taste, it’s a refreshing beer that suits all kinds of occasion. A beer in the traditional Munich style!

Botella de 500ml. Vaso Weizen. Final dulce. Desequilibrada y empalagosa ! 500ml bottle. Weizen glass. Brown color, crystal clear appearance. Tan froth creates a lively & brief crown. Toasted, slight woody, herbal aromas, hints of diacetyl. Sweet toasted & syrupy flavors. Light to medium body. Moderate but lively carbonation resolves in a watery texture. Candy flavor, hues of sweet almonds & nutmeg liquor touch are displayed in the middle. Sweet finish. Unbalanced & cloying!

On tap at local pizzeria. Pours a muddy brown with an off-white head. Aroma has caramel and lemons, with light brown sugar. Taste is of malty caramel, bread and lemons. Medium bodied and a bit sticky. Finishes sweetly, and not too long. A solid easy drinker - a little sweet and a little sour.

Slight coffee and even a nutty aroma with flowery hops. Smooth mouthfeel with Munich malt backbone. Awesome MD. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

50cl draught@Hofbräukeller München, 02/2014. Translucent maroni. Good spicy bread crust, fairly carbonated, mid-watery palate. Woody notes as in twigs and branches accompany roast and caramel, pine towards a leathery finish. Nice.

500ml bottle from Alko. Clear brown colour, medium off-white mostly lasting frothy head, good lacing. Moderate to heavy roasty malts in the aroma with some bisquit, caramel and a hint chocolate thrown in moderate herbal and peppery hops. Taste is initially moderately sweet, slightly bitter and acidic, still fairly balanced, turning into a slightly bitter and moderately long finish with a slightly burnt feel. Medium body, oily texture, lively carbonation. Not an insanely interesting dark lager, but very pleasant and drinkable. Something I might want to serve with a proper pork meal instead of wine while trying to attain a wide appeal.

Draught at my friend’s wedding in May 2013. Poured a clear chestnut/ amber colour with a dense off white head. Malty aroma with some molasses and caramel. Sweetness on the flavour, definite malt dominance. Some dry grains in the palate and mild grass-like hops.

Bottle - 500ml. Nice copper body with a thin off-white foamy head. Decent malty/hoppy aroma with brown sugar, grainy, and woody hints. Its well balanced malty/hoppy taste carries brown sugar and woody notes. Ends with a good bittersweet finish. Decent everyday Dunkel.

kramer (4860) - Sunbury, Pennsylvania, USA - FEB 5, 2014
Bottle. Pours a clear light brown body with a small fizzy beige head that faded fairly quickly. The nose is slightly bready and lightly roasted malt with a little graininess. The flavor is fairly bland really, just a light bready, nutty, and toasty malt base with a little sweetness on the finish. Lighter bodied with just a little stickiness on the finish. Moderate soft fizzy carbonation. Overall, a rather bland and boring effort, but easy enough to finish a single bottle.
