COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Dark beer existed in Bavaria long before light beer. This was the first type of beer to be brewed at Hofbräuhaus when it was founded. Today, when beer-lovers all over the world talk about dark beer, they usually mean a Munich style beer. Today, Hofbräu Dunkel - the archetypal Bavarian beer - is still as popular as ever. With its alcoholic content of around 5.5% volume and its spicy taste, it’s a refreshing beer that suits all kinds of occasion. A beer in the traditional Munich style!

Beese (1526) - Watford, Hertfordshire, ENGLAND - FEB 13, 2014
Draught at my friend’s wedding in May 2013. Poured a clear chestnut/ amber colour with a dense off white head. Malty aroma with some molasses and caramel. Sweetness on the flavour, definite malt dominance. Some dry grains in the palate and mild grass-like hops.

Bottle - 500ml. Nice copper body with a thin off-white foamy head. Decent malty/hoppy aroma with brown sugar, grainy, and woody hints. Its well balanced malty/hoppy taste carries brown sugar and woody notes. Ends with a good bittersweet finish. Decent everyday Dunkel.

kramer (4866) - Sunbury, Pennsylvania, USA - FEB 5, 2014
Bottle. Pours a clear light brown body with a small fizzy beige head that faded fairly quickly. The nose is slightly bready and lightly roasted malt with a little graininess. The flavor is fairly bland really, just a light bready, nutty, and toasty malt base with a little sweetness on the finish. Lighter bodied with just a little stickiness on the finish. Moderate soft fizzy carbonation. Overall, a rather bland and boring effort, but easy enough to finish a single bottle.

KansaiBeerLvrs (1650) - Kyoto, JAPAN - FEB 4, 2014
5.5% Bottle from Yamaya for just 158 yen. It pours a dark brown almost black in the glass with a thick beige fizzy head with minimal lacing. The aroma is all malts, oats, hay & some caramel. Medium-light body. The taste is more appetizing than the aroma, caramel, bready, nuts, toffee. Sweet syrupy finish but overall quite tasty.

Smells a lot like a yeasty marzen with the dark color of a schwarzbier. Taste very nutty with sweet malt and only the hints of bittering hops like those in pils. Very tasty not sure I expected it to retain this as an export here in Texas versus what I’ve had in Germany.

Bottle from Yamaya. Dark amber colour. Aroma has sweet malts and some caramel. Flavour also has some chocolate. Nice smooth beer, but not mind blowing.
