COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Dark beer existed in Bavaria long before light beer. This was the first type of beer to be brewed at Hofbräuhaus when it was founded. Today, when beer-lovers all over the world talk about dark beer, they usually mean a Munich style beer. Today, Hofbräu Dunkel - the archetypal Bavarian beer - is still as popular as ever. With its alcoholic content of around 5.5% volume and its spicy taste, it’s a refreshing beer that suits all kinds of occasion. A beer in the traditional Munich style!

5.5% Bottle from Yamaya for just 158 yen. It pours a dark brown almost black in the glass with a thick beige fizzy head with minimal lacing. The aroma is all malts, oats, hay & some caramel. Medium-light body. The taste is more appetizing than the aroma, caramel, bready, nuts, toffee. Sweet syrupy finish but overall quite tasty.

Smells a lot like a yeasty marzen with the dark color of a schwarzbier. Taste very nutty with sweet malt and only the hints of bittering hops like those in pils. Very tasty not sure I expected it to retain this as an export here in Texas versus what I’ve had in Germany.

Welcome to the dunkel, we’ve got fun and games! Tasty, if unspectacular. Nothing mind-blowing, but smooth and easy-drinking. Watch my 6-second review here: http://teamchug.com/hofbrau-dunkel-beer-review/

Bottle from local Yamaya. Light caramel roast nose, with trickles of brown sugar. Dark tea color, Mild roast malt initial w/ med carbonation / then it all pretty much disappears. Thin-medium body. Okay, but not a lot here. Drinkable.

Dark copper with a thin white head. Smells skunky. Not much in terms of flavor.
