COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Dark beer existed in Bavaria long before light beer. This was the first type of beer to be brewed at Hofbräuhaus when it was founded. Today, when beer-lovers all over the world talk about dark beer, they usually mean a Munich style beer. Today, Hofbräu Dunkel - the archetypal Bavarian beer - is still as popular as ever. With its alcoholic content of around 5.5% volume and its spicy taste, it’s a refreshing beer that suits all kinds of occasion. A beer in the traditional Munich style!

500 ml bottle from LCBO. Pours a dark rubyish brown with moderate-sized light tan head. Aroma is toasty grains, nuts, toffee and spice. Flavour is modestly toasty grains, solid toffee and slightly chocolatey maltiness, a distinct nuttiness and a bit of spiciness. Average body and carbonation. Pleasant one.

500ml on tap. Smoky chocolate on the nose. Red/brown beer with solid tan head that leaves lacing. Silky mouthfeel. Medium body. Finish is chocolate, cocoa, cinnamon. What a pleasure! Nice beer, easy drinking.

The Hofbräuhaus dunkle is a very smooth dark beer. The aroma is faint but the taste is great I detect a hint of molasses which gives the beer a sweet taste Overall I think this is a good beer and would recommend it to everyone

Reddish brown color, with nice beige head. Low carbonation, light body and thin texture. Aroma is toasted bread, caramel, dark malt lightly roasted. Taste is sweet, very light bitterness, cloves and bread. Aftertaste is sweet and long.

Mass at the Hofbrauhaus in Munich. Very dark brown with a nice foamy head and served in a glass HB glass. This looked good, and smelt pretty good too, though dominated by the malt. A drinkable beer in interesting surroundings, but ultimately a bit plain.

A nice average dunked overall. Pours a beautiful deep red with a white head. Smells sweet, malty with some peach. Taste is quite malty, with some caramel and vanilla. Sweet finish. Had in tap at Lowbrau.

50cl @ bottle. Scura tedesca trovata al supermercato. Tutto sommato una birra discreta, bell’aspetto, beverina, forse un po’ troppo amara. Birra estiva.

Bottle from Harvest Market, Bedford NH. Aroma is basement yeast over toasted malt. Appearance is nice clear amber reddish brown with finger-width off-white head with fair retention, minimal lacing, and nice sparkle. Taste is moderately sweet malt balanced with light bitter. Palate is medium bodied with medium texture and lively carbonation. Finish is abrupt. Overall, a decent beer across the board without blowing the doors of anything..
