COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Dark beer existed in Bavaria long before light beer. This was the first type of beer to be brewed at Hofbräuhaus when it was founded. Today, when beer-lovers all over the world talk about dark beer, they usually mean a Munich style beer. Today, Hofbräu Dunkel - the archetypal Bavarian beer - is still as popular as ever. With its alcoholic content of around 5.5% volume and its spicy taste, it’s a refreshing beer that suits all kinds of occasion. A beer in the traditional Munich style!

From a 500ml bottle on 2/4/2016. Pours a clear deep amber with a biggish foamy head Has a malty aroma of caramel and rye bread. The flavour follows suit - more caramel and rye bread, a bit of toffee, a touch of spice, and a very mild bitterness. Medium bodied with mild carbonation. A very solid, well made, tasty beer.

On tap at The Mayor of Old Town. Clear amber appearance with a lasting tan head. Aroma and flavor of Munich malt, light caramel/toffee and hints of spicy hops. Medium body with a smooth, creamy feel. A nice dunkel overall.

Ar- dark bread crust is dominant on the nose with some caramel and hints of malt sweetness. Also get a hummus note. Ap- clear, dark copper beer pours a nice white to off white head. Fl- malt sweetness is well balanced by toasted bread crust and subtle hop bitterness. A hint of caramel in the mid palate. Mf- med bodied, nicely carbonated, Ov- this is like drinking bread, and is a little one note. It's a good note but not a very good one. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Deep brown pour with a thin white head. The nose is very soft and toasty. Has a fresh baked breadiness and a touch of toffee flavour. Clean fermentation with a nice lingering sweet finish. Nice autumn brew.

It is precisely what it’s supposed to be. Dark copper color with slowly rising carbonation and some semblance of a slightly off white head if poured correctly. Very caramelly on the nose with a generous touch of brioche or other such thick bread as that. Not much bitterness which is fine for this style and very pleasant, clean-cut, and drinkable. Light-medium bodied with dull carbonation. Aftertaste is cut abruptly short but will have you reaching for more. I very much enjoyed it.
