COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Dark beer existed in Bavaria long before light beer. This was the first type of beer to be brewed at Hofbräuhaus when it was founded. Today, when beer-lovers all over the world talk about dark beer, they usually mean a Munich style beer. Today, Hofbräu Dunkel - the archetypal Bavarian beer - is still as popular as ever. With its alcoholic content of around 5.5% volume and its spicy taste, it’s a refreshing beer that suits all kinds of occasion. A beer in the traditional Munich style!

1 L. tap at Hofbräuhaus München. Dark red-brown colour with a medium baige head. Light sweet roasted malty aroma and a sweet caramel chocolat taste. Medium body and a light dry finish.

Deep caramelly red, large tight head. Sweet caramelly malty aroma. Similar taste, but a bit waterier and dull. Finish caramelly. Slight copper coin hpo bitterness. Poor for a dunkel.

11.2 oz. bottle. Poured deep dark amber, lasting off white head. Aroma was roasted malt, caramel. Taste was sweeter up front, slight bitter finish. Probably would taste better in Munich than Omaha.

I do not wax on poetically about beer but I do know the quality of a beer once tasted. This review is not about my tastes but reinforces the numbers, which are arbitrary.

Roasted malts, dark fruits, brown with a good white/tan head not persistant, light body, medium carbonation, quietly sweet and bitter in the final, roasted hints and dark fruits...very refreshing while i’m watching that house draw like a myazaki anime.

Brown color, white head with quickly diminishing. Aroma is slightly nutty with toasted malts. Flavor is toasty, dry fruits, mainly nuts and almonds, medium maltiness, slightly sweet at the beginning that changes to a light bitterness in the final.

Strong caramel, malty toffee like flavor and aroma. No hop flavors present, good example.
