COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Dark beer existed in Bavaria long before light beer. This was the first type of beer to be brewed at Hofbräuhaus when it was founded. Today, when beer-lovers all over the world talk about dark beer, they usually mean a Munich style beer. Today, Hofbräu Dunkel - the archetypal Bavarian beer - is still as popular as ever. With its alcoholic content of around 5.5% volume and its spicy taste, it’s a refreshing beer that suits all kinds of occasion. A beer in the traditional Munich style!

On draught at Hofbräuhaus Las Vegas. Dark reddish brown color with a thick and rocky cream colored head. Thin lacing. The aroma is lightly roasty and malty. Medium-bodied and sweet with roasted malt and caramel flavoring. The finish is nutty and lingeringly sweet. A decent beer to accompany a bratwurst.

Poured a dark reddish brown color with a beige head. Sweet caramel malt aroma and flavor followed by a good amount of hop bitterness.

500ml vom fass at the biergarten Chinesischer Turm, Englischer Garten, München. Clear, deep brown body under a thin layer. Fair lacing on the glass. Aroma of sweet malts. Flavour is also dominated by sweet malts balanced by notes of dark fruits. Lingering, rounded bitter end (18.06.2007).

Draught Very stable yellow head, leaving lace, over chestnut-brown beer. Rainwater, dark autumn leaves, and a bit fruity - and of course very malty. Again leafy & malty; sweet, but nowhere exaggeratedly. Coloured malts, without roastedness. Ends a tad woody. Quite well-bodied, slick, near-syrupy. Much better than feared, to be honest.

(Draught at Hofbräu München) Clear dark brown color, tan head. Sweet malty a bit roasted scent. Malty sweet taste. Spritzy moutfeel, low bitterness.

My Bottom Line :
Potent Munich malt flavors oversee this Dunkel’s flavor profile where nondescript hop bitterness and fieldberry angles attempt to add depth.

Further Personal Perceptions :
-A sheet of foam tops the dark brown, leaving no lacing.
-Even though the body is rich, the brew remains quite drinkable.
-An earthy touch seems to come from the combination of specialty malts and bittering hops.
-If you don’t know what Munich malts taste like, this will be a good brew to learn from.

On tap at the tourist magnet.

Draught @ Hofbräu München, Berlin
Pours clear brown with a off-white head. Aroma has notes of malt, grain, biscuit and caramel. Taste is light to medium sweet and light bitter. Body is light to medium, texture is thin to oily, carbonation is soft.

Best session beer of all time. IT is darker in color, but light in flavor, with just enough sweetness. The ultimate beer to session on a hot summer day.
