COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Dark beer existed in Bavaria long before light beer. This was the first type of beer to be brewed at Hofbräuhaus when it was founded. Today, when beer-lovers all over the world talk about dark beer, they usually mean a Munich style beer. Today, Hofbräu Dunkel - the archetypal Bavarian beer - is still as popular as ever. With its alcoholic content of around 5.5% volume and its spicy taste, it’s a refreshing beer that suits all kinds of occasion. A beer in the traditional Munich style!

Nutty with a sweet aroma. Dark caramel color. The taste is light enough to be refreshing. Very nice.

Flaska från systembolaget. Lätt, och då menar jag lätt, rostad smak i kombination med den typiska vetesmaken funkar men är inte jättespännande.

The beer pours a deep yet clear reddish chestnut color with a medium white head. The aroma is skunky with hints of caramel malts and yeast, and the taste is quite sour and a touch umami; the mouthfeel fuses a thin texture, sour finish, medium-light body, and a soft carbonation. Overall, this beer is alright with some of the flavors having been (sadly) ruined by the green bottle.

Bottle. Green bottle.. should’ve been my fisrt clue. This shit is an awful example of the style -- skunk and caramel tick all the boxes as far as aroma and taste go, everything else is below average. I have over 700 ratings, and this is the most half-assed one I’ve done to date because this bottle of Gerry piss is the most half-assed Dunkel I’ve had to date. I’d rather drink a can of Busch Light (and for the record, I really like me some Dunkel, otherwise I wouldn’t give this such a hash critique).

Smak och doft av humle, malt, karamell, brunt socker med toner av örter och torkad frukt. Jämna och fina smaker, lätt kropp och beska.

Its body has a deep burnt coppery color with lighter amber highlights and good clarity. The pour produces a tall, foamy, light tan head with a mix of small tightly packed bubbles and bigger soapy quick fading bubbles. The settles down to a thin cap of tiny bubbles that makes very nice lacing on the glass. The nose is full and rich. There are solid notes of caramel and bready maltiness followed up by some floral/mineral like German and Czech noble hops. As in the aroma the flavor has nice caramel/bready maltiness and noble spicy/floral hops in good balance with a slight edge to the malt. In the finish it quickly fades to dryer mellow hop bitterness. The body has a medium to full body with a smooth, not to thick/not to thin, texture and carbonation.

Pours a brown with off-white head. Caramel malts, some spice, and some caramel on the nose; follows onto the palate. Finishes with a little wheat.

Rødbrun klar med beige skum. Karamell, malt og nøttelukt. Lite bitterhet, men kjenner en liten bitter mot syrlig smak, men mest karamellsødme. Kort, medium kullsyre

Keg at Casc Aberdeen. Copper/ amber coloured pour with a short lived cream head. Nose is formed of wet grains, rye bread, somewhat sweet unrefined sugars and toffee apple. Flavour is pretty dull, rye bread, stale grains and chalk. Palate is slightly thin, moderate carbonation. Semi sweet. Some decent dried fruits in the finish.
