Dark beer existed in Bavaria long before light beer. This was the first type of beer to be brewed at Hofbräuhaus when it was founded. Today, when beer-lovers all over the world talk about dark beer, they usually mean a Munich style beer. Today, Hofbräu Dunkel - the archetypal Bavarian beer - is still as popular as ever. With its alcoholic content of around 5.5% volume and its spicy taste, it’s a refreshing beer that suits all kinds of occasion. A beer in the traditional Munich style!

Ho provato una birra ingiudicabile visto che era leggermente acida. Mal chiusa forse? Boh alla prossima bevuta giudicherò. ---Rated BY Italianbeer85

Got in Germany. It pours dark brown with an off white head. It has some sweet malt aromas with toast and toffee. There is flavors of floral with the malts.

Draught at Hofbräu zum Rathaus, Vienna.
Dark copper body, with a big, creamy, lacing, light beige head.
Aroma of toast, caramel, dark bread, some dark fruits, some honey.
Tastes of caramel, honey, toast, grains, some herbs, slight cardboard.
Medium, a bit oily mouthfeel, with a lively carbonation.
Finishes grainy, bready, medium toasty, a bit caramelic.

Good. The nose is nice, with enjoyable toasty notes. Taste is OK, but a bit flat and slightly too sweet for me. Overall an OK style examples, while I’ve had better ones.

1 liter stein Hofbrauhaus Berlin. Preferred this slightly to the augustiner dunkel. Only slightly. The augustiner hells is preferable to the hofbrau though.

Pretty good traditional dark Bavarian lager. Aroma is fresh dark roasty malt. Flavor’s similar to nose, not overly sweet, good carbonation. Perhaps a touch thin. Great finish.
