COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
By tradition, the first barrel of Maibock is tapped in the Hofbräuhaus in the last week of April, in time for the merry month of May. The success story of Munich’s oldest bock beer goes back as far as 1614. With its powerfully aromatic flavour and its alcoholic content of some 7.2% volume, Hofbräu Maibock marks one of the high points in the beer-lover’s calendar!

Bottle. Clear reddish amber pour, small soapy white head. Nose is dusty, caramel, and maybe just a slight bit of skunkiness. Moderate palate. Taste is rich caramel and bread.

+ prachtig goud kleurig. Schuim blijft redelijk goed staan. Ziet er zwer mooi uit. Geur redelijk. Malt en rook. 1st smaak - ligt bitter. 2de smaak - ligt zoet. 3de smaak - alcohol branden. Lekker zomer bockje als het warm is. Niet echt een smaak explosie. Middelmstig.

On draft at Pittsburgh Hofbrau. Amber color. Caramel, sweet malt, subtle hop bite. Okay.

500ml on tap at Hofbrauhaus in Newport, Kentucky. According to the menu and the bartender that served me, the Maibock and the Oktoberfest are the only brews at Hofbrauhaus in Newport that are imported from Munich (the Newport entries ought to be aliased). I’m told the batch I had was running a little strong, between 7.7-7.8 ABV. Totally clear red-orange body. Good thin khaki head, little lace. Medium-plus body. Very smooth, lighter carbonation. Lightly dry finish. Light dark fruit, some toasty malt, light hints of pepper. Little caramel malt. Nice rich, sweet taste. Light bitterness in the finish. One of the tastiest, most easy-drinking examples of maibock I’ve ever had. No bite in the alcohol at all, either. Pretty deceptive brew.

This maibock is so tasty. I ordered a big liter stein of it at their beer garden. Chestnut in color with enticing sweet malts calling you in. The ABV is a nice bonus.

Orange-brown, small off white head. Aroma malt, caramel. Medium body. A bit of alcohol noticeable. Flavor is pretty sweet. Malty and toffee-like. Some dryness in the finish. Drinkable for sure, maybe a little on the syrupy side.

Draft in a stein with a meal at a German restaurant. Medium bodied, soft carbonation; just the right amount of malt and sweetness IMHO! It went great with my wiener schnitzel and German potato salad.
