The Munich Beer Festival, or Oktoberfest, is an event of superlatives - it’s the largest popular festival in the world, staging in the beer metropolis of Munich. Millions of visitors from all over the world flock along every year to enjoy its very special atmosphere. For this occasion, Hofbräu brews a rich, full-bodied beer which goes down ideally with traditional Bavarian cuisine. With its deliciously bitter taste and alcoholic content of 6.3% volume, Hofbräu Oktoberfestbier is as special as the Beer Festival itself.

Clear, yellow colour with a creamy white head. Mild, malty, bready aroma. Soft but mild taste with faint bitterness toward the end. Creamy mouthfeel, soft but low carbonation. It’s alright again but not a whole lot for me to enjoy.

Bottle. Clear golden liquid, white moderate frothy head. Not that stable. Grainy nose with honey malts & minimal yeast. Robust medium to full body, oily. Clean malty taste. Honey, grains, some biscuit. Notable grassy bitterness. Well balanced. Long hoppy finish. Very enjoyable. Good

11.2 oz. bottle. Pours a pale straw color, very clear, and has a large fluffy white head. High levels of carbonation. Aroma of light malts and hay. Taste is light malt, grass, maybe hints of bread. Finish has a mild bitterness. Refreshing and easy to drink.

0.5 l bottle from local ’Trink & Spare’, best before April 2017. Pale, golden yellow with a medium large, foamy, almost stable, snow-white head. A bit sweetish, quite grassy, slightly spicy and minimally fruity aroma of straw, grains, a touch of butter and hints of citrus. Sweetish-malty, quite grassy and minimally fruity taste of sweet malts, cereals, straw, some butter and slight hints of citrus, followed by a short, slightly bitter, rather grassy-spicy finish. Medium body, smooth and moderately effervescent mouthfeel, average carbonation. Drinkable, and that’s what it’s supposed to be!

For an Oktoberfest, Hobfrau Munchen’s brew is a bit on the light side. Color and feel are lighter than what’s typically seen for the style. Cereal grain aromas and some grassy hops. Taste profile works similarly. Bread flavors and herbal, bitter hop finish. The 6.2% ABV fits with the style, but flavor is more like that of a lighter Lager.

Kirkas kullankeltainen runsaasti poreileva olut kohtalaisella valkoisella vaahtokerroksella. Viljainen ja maltainen, hieman voinen ja popkornimainen tuoksu. Maku raikkaan pilsmäinen, viljaisen maltainen ja runsaan hiilihappoinen. Aika raikas ja helposti juotava olut, jota voisi nauttia useammankin Oktoberfesteillä.

Keg @ Hofbrauhaus, Munich. Deep gold pour with a small head. Nose is fairly light and easy going. Gentle cereal and little else. Flavor has a bit of caramel sweetness. Some apple slice. Sweet biscuit. Crisp finish. Light body, strong carb.

500ml bottle. Clear and very pale golden yellow colour with a two finger creamy white head, great retention. Aroma is grainy, bready, slight floral hops. Taste of grainy, bready malts, grassy hops, light bitter finish. Well carbonated. Didn’t realise this was 6.3%. Very drinkable and refreshing.
First time trying an Oktoberfest style and I liked it, similar to a lager but much more enjoyable to drink, more flavourful. I’m probably a bit late drinking this in July just a couple of months before it’s BB date, but it didn’t seem at all bad.
