3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
DATE TASTED: September 20, 2014... GLASSWARE: Saranac willbecker...OCCASION: PSU/UMass--a Mass-acre to be?... APPEARANCE: hazy golden yellow body akin to a pilsener; steady upward bubbles; quite light for a fest; pale white head laces in tongues... AROMA: highly hopped in Saaz, apparently; besides the ping, some floral hops and grassy notes; not the fest expected... PALATE: active, vibrant and commanding--the aftertaste lingers with sweetness.....TASTE: sweet as a corn and biscuit combo can be; malty to the taste buds, but not as round as it is metallic to the nostrils; some wheat grass ...OVERALL: as Oktoberfests go, a surprise--much lighter and less malty than expected in its finish; perhaps drinking too many American fests has misled my expectations; still, balanced and worthwhile....

From tap in a glass jug. Clear light gold with light fizzy head. Aroma light with notes of grass/hay. Taste equally light with some bitterness, notes of grass and light toast. Refreshing and an ok beer, no more.

3.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
Pours a nice clear coppery Amber with a decent pale buff head. Aroma has fruity and malty notes, not strong but inviting. Crisp, fruity flavor has a malty underpinning and just a snip of hops, average but pleasing. Texture has OK thickness and fizz. Fair to middlin’ but heck, it’s Oktoberfest! (Not officially, just at Summits Wayside Taverns.)

On draught at Prost! 10/5/14. Light golden color. Aroma was some caramel and grassy hops. Taste definitely has some nice caramel malt notes with grassy, herbal hops that are just slightly too bitter. Easy-drinking though.

500 ml bottle from the LCBO. Pours crystal clear yellow with white head. Smells like Euro hops, peppery and hebal. Some earthy/peppery hops on the taste. Crisp. Mild bitter finish. Not bad.

Hofbräu München Oktoberfestbier is not quite what you would expect in an Oktoberfest bier. Pour is lighter -- almost straw colored with almost no head and light hoppy aroma. Taste is hoppy -- almost like a pale ale -- with the malt somewhat understated for this style and lighter than expected. Finish is fairly clean but with a light malt aftertaste. Hofbräu Oktoberfestbier doesn’t exactly live up the style, but is a nice change of pace from the traditional seasonal brew fare.
