The Munich Beer Festival, or Oktoberfest, is an event of superlatives - it’s the largest popular festival in the world, staging in the beer metropolis of Munich. Millions of visitors from all over the world flock along every year to enjoy its very special atmosphere. For this occasion, Hofbräu brews a rich, full-bodied beer which goes down ideally with traditional Bavarian cuisine. With its deliciously bitter taste and alcoholic content of 6.3% volume, Hofbräu Oktoberfestbier is as special as the Beer Festival itself.

Pours a clear golden with a small white head that leaves some lacing. Aroma of sour-ish herbs and not much more. Some annoying skunk. Taste is slightly grainy, lightly bitter. Body is light, carbonation is high. This wouldn’t push me to buy a ticket to Munich for the Oktoberfest.

I find these octoberfest beers a bit underwhelming. Sweet and high ABV. Not much of a presence or depth. Alcohol is very sweet.

bread, dough, skunky, golden, frothy, lightly bitter, light sweetness, slick feel, average carbonation. Delicate bitterness, doesn’t linger too long. Almost teasing in that it has a lighter taste than you expect when it hits your lips.

11.2 ounce bottle - $1.99 at Total Wine & More in Kennesaw, Georgia.

Appearance: Pours a clear, soft-hued, light yellow body with a small, short-lived, white head. No lacing.

Smell: Quick sniff of skunkiness, though it fades out quickly. A tad grainy pils malts with an edge of anticipated sweetness. Faintly bready. Minor hop character.

Taste: Some cereal sweetness greets the tongue with light hint of honey atop the underlying pilsner maltiness. Slightly leafy, herbal-toned hops with little albeit ample bitterness. Faintly fruity. Drying finish with a gentle hint of alcohol on the swallow.

Mouthfeel: Medium-thin body. Medium carbonation.

Overall: Not horrible, no, but, a lackluster example of the style.

Fuente: http://www.encopasabemejor.com/2013/01/hb-oktoberf

Appearance: Liquid straw and bread crusts under an airy white head that fades into sticky rocky patches, leaving clumps of lace in its wake. Swirls bubbly.
Nose: French and Italian rolls with husked grains in the middle. Burlap sacks of apples. Green grass. Crackers. Mineralistic.
Palate: Hard and mineralistic along the edges. Faint lemon and green grass. Bread crusts and spice in the breath. Green bite in the back. Sun burnt fields of grains.
Final Thoughts: I don’t know if it is the green bottle of that the Hofbrauhaus Oktoberfestbier comes to me all the way from Germany, but I just did not like this beer. Not Marzen in style, it could have been good with rich notes of freshly harvest grains, bread, and faint green grass notes. Instead the hard mineral quality was overwhelming and unpleasant, lingering after each quaff. There are better Oktoberfestbiers out there to celebrate the season.

10/02/12 Bottle poured into a pint glass. Thick head. Lager toned, honey color. Aroma of mild, Euro beers such as Heineken. Mild flavor somewhere between drinkable and bland. Perplexing...I expected more flavor but if one were to pound liters of beer in Munich at Octoberfest, this beer would be up to the task. 6.3% ABV seems high for a chugging beer. Not as good as I thought it would be. ---Rated via the Gridfather

Not my favorite style. To me this tastes like a Budweiser with a bit of Bready and honey flavors and aromas. Nothing special.
