2.5 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 10/20
Tap @ Front Door, Boise, ID: Pours a fairly clear gold color, decent head and lacing. The nose is light with some thin malt and up front cheap hoppy notes. The flavor is thin, with some husk and sweet malt, but very little caramelization, and a sharp pilsnery hop bite. The finish isn’t balanced, with a much more bitter up front note along with that husky cheap malt note. Lame oktoberfest.

Light lagery aroma. Late dry hoppiness in the taste, but very thin body. Plenty of fizz, very little guts.

Golden colour. Big foamy head. Sweet, malty aroma. Flavour is fat, buttery malt with a touch of honey. Finish has a lingering, grassy bitterness with notes of salty liquorice.

2.5 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 11/20
UPDATED: OCT 1, 2007 Green bottle. Very light colored, bland looking beer. Not worthy of carrying the title Oktoberfest, just based on the appearance. Average head, but nice lacing. Grainy skunky aroma. Taste is also grainy, crisp, dry. Typical pale german lager. Not marzen. Boring.

In bottle. This is an Oktoberfest? Light body and little taste-- I thought it was just the regular Hofbrau lager. What a disappointment. Were the original Oktoberfest/Marzen beers this light? No wonder the Hofbrau House in Munich caters to the tourists-- the locals probably wouldn’t drink this.

(Bottle) Pours clear golden. Bready, light toasted malt and grassy, light funky herb like hops in the aroma. Also some tones of honey, flower nectar and a light fruitiness are also present. Malty flavour. Bread, grass, fruits and herbs in the flavour as well. Hints of sweet liquorice anf flowers. Light numbing and light salty and quite crisp mouthfeel. Some citric acid. Dry, bitter and a bit apple-ish alcohol finish. Medium bodied.

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 13/20
Tannic, vegetal aroma. Fizzy white head on a pale (for a marzen) body. Balanced and drinkable, goes down super-easy. Definitely a case of the right beer at the right time. I’m sweating my ass off and the only thing that stopped me from finishing it 30 minutes ago was getting in a rating ;)

2.4 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 10/20
Pours a clear golden yellow with a frothy white head that diminishes quickly. This is easily the palest Oktoberfest that I’ve seen. I was hit by skunk the instant the beer hit the glass. Another green bottle, another skunked beer. After sitting a bit to "air out" I was able to pull out the scent of faint bready malt, but it was far more muted than I’ve grown accustomed to expect from the style. Light to medium-bodied and slightly grainy, the mouthfeel finishes fairly dry. Bready, astringent and dry with a slightly bitter, hopped finish. Not the best example of the style that you’ll find.
