Grainy base malt aroma with notes of apricot and cinnamon. Clear yellow with a white ring and dots. Strong lager flavour: malty and ethanolic with a good amount of bitterness and perhaps even some higher alcohols, acetone. Medium body, moderate carbonation, almost clean finish.

2.9 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 12/20
Clear golden, bright yellow color with medium, vanishing and lacy white head. Aroma is grainy malty and mildly alcoholic. Flavor is also grainy malty and alcoholic but it is still very smooth. Medium-bodied and foamy carbonated palate. Overall very straightforward beer which is extremely easy to drink while enjoying other thing uch as atmosphere. The beer itself is not enjoyable but it’s absolutely doing the job it’s been brewed for.

Yech! As a big fan of HB Maibock, I was seriously disappointed in this watery, pissy rendition of an Oktoberfest style beer. I’ve relegated the other bottles to beer to cook with.

2.9 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Pours clear light golden color with an off white head. Malty grainy aroma, with some bread and a small amount of grassy hops. Sweet malty flavor, with a smooth toasty bready finish. Nice crisp easy to drink beer. I was initially disappointed by the appearance and aroma of the beer, but the flavor was better and it ended up being an ok beer.

Bottle (355ml) 6%. Poured fizzy yellow with an averaged sized, frothy, off-white head which was mostly lasting. Aroma was of musty grainy malts with floral/grassy hops, parsley, lemon citrus, light yeasty/bread notes and some lychee in the back. Flavour was of sweet grainy malts with a light grassy hop bitterness, lemon citrus, brown bread and some light metallic notes in the finish. Light to medium bodied with lively carbonation, a dry mouthfeel, thin texture and an ok finish.

While its not a marzen, it’s still a fairly decent brew. Pours a bright straw yellow colour with a little white head. Taste is slightly grainy, malty with noticeable saaz hops in the finish. I’m thinking it may be a pils, not sure though.

3 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Bottle. Moderate malt aromas of cereal, caramel and light bread, moderate hop notes of herbs, light earth for the yeast, with background notes of brown sugar and wood. Head is small, fizzy white with no lacing and is fully diminishing. Color is sparkling clear dark amber. Flavor starts lighty to moderatley sweet and lightly acidic, then finishes lightly acidic and bitter. Palate is light to medium, watery with a touch of dryness and has a lively carbonation. The color of this beer didn’t say Oktoberfest to me, but the taste sure did.

Off Taps Capital Ale House. Nice malty caramel aroma with some grassy continental hop notes. Can’t see the beer for the ceramic mug. Nice clean malt accentuated flavor. Crisp slightly bitter finish. A tasty beer by all accounts.
