COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
The Munich Beer Festival, or Oktoberfest, is an event of superlatives - it’s the largest popular festival in the world, staging in the beer metropolis of Munich. Millions of visitors from all over the world flock along every year to enjoy its very special atmosphere. For this occasion, Hofbräu brews a rich, full-bodied beer which goes down ideally with traditional Bavarian cuisine. With its deliciously bitter taste and alcoholic content of 6.3% volume, Hofbräu Oktoberfestbier is as special as the Beer Festival itself.

Pours lite-golend blonde, clear with a thinner, but foamy head. Smells hoppy and a little hint of clovey spicey-ness. A little bit lighter on the palate with a smooth malty plum flavor, balanced by a spciey and refreshing hoppy kick. Overall a quenching beer but it seems to stop a little bit short of expectations- not bad.

The Dan Journal #45. Tasted 10/22/06. part of the Autumn tasting. Filtered and dull golden. Slightly fruity nose. Medium bodied and sweet with hints of corn. Well hopped and mildly dry. Nice graham cracker flavor. Really nice O’fest. Might be my favorite of the night..

Had this on tap at the Hofbrauhaus in Munich and I had to ask if this was a marzen as I thought they bought the wrong beer. I shared a bottle of this years later and it was the same beer. Not half as good as the Avinger. Page 217 of Michael Jackson’s Great Beer Guide only 362 out of his 500 Classic Brews to go.

Bottle. Clear golden colour with a medium mostly diminishing head. Weak aroma and taste of malts with hoppy finish. Probably a good session beer, but i dont feel like trying.

Macro like in colour and appearance. Did I mention that expectations are very low following a very poor showing of the Muchen lager? Anyhows......mild nose of stale malts, quite uninspiring. A bit better to taste with the malts stepping up a notch. Some nice sweetness early but unfortunately gets ovetaken a little with a stale, cardboard-like note. I don’t think it’s light struck given the bottle colour and decent storage but sure tastes like it. Broadens on the finish with lager like malts..

Bottle. Clear yellow / golden color with a large good lacing white head. Aroma is moderate malty, bread and light hoppy, grass, hay. Inital flavor is ligth to moderate sweet and bitter, finish flavor is ligth to moderate sweet and moderate bitter with a average to long duration. Nice hoppy finish. Body is medium, texture is oily, carbonation soft to lively.

This beer pours unlike any other Oktoberfest I have tried, which makes me leery right off the bat. Clear dark golden color with a thick and fluffy white head that dissipates slowly. Lager-ish aroma of mild hops and malt. Light-bodied with hops and grainy malt flavors that don’t have much staying power. The finish is mildly bitter with touches of citrus. Below average across the board.

Bottle from Holiday Wine Cellar: Clear golden color with a small white head. It has a light sweet corn aroma. The flavor is malty sweet and grainy with a light spicy bitterness and light dry finish. Light-medium bodied with lively carbonation.
