2.9 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
Whole Foods, Baton Rouge, La. - 12 oz bottle. Pours a translucent light orange with a thin, tight white head. Aroma is slightly corny with a hint of yeast. Flavor has some of the same elements with a touch of ripening vegetables. Not as sweet as some Marzens can be. Mouthfeel is pleasantly thick. Smooth finish, fades just a bit near the end. Average.

500ml bottle from Peckhams, this was 6%. Good rich golden colour, fluffy white head, lasts well down the glass. There is a good persistent bead. Nose is quite powerful, with nice fruity hops and soft malt too. There is a touch of sweet malt on the palate, which extends through to the finish. Good malt dominated bier.

2.7 AROMA 3/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
Had this on draft at a wedding reception. German breweries for the most part brew a golden colored O-Fest and this was no exception. Some hop bite, medium body and the void of caramel malts I expect in (American) Marzens.

3.5 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 9/20
On tap at Firkin’s, Libertyville, IL. Clear golden yellow hued having a lasting large creamy head with good lacing. Sweet malt aroma. Soft carbonation. Medium-bodied that starts dry with hint of sweet malt flavor and finishes dry with light bitterness. A tasty clean, crisp dry Oktoberfest beer.

3.2 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Poured an effervescent golden with a small fizzy off-white head. German hop aroma. Flavor seems more like a pilsener, with the strongest taste being grassy hops. Between the color and the hop character, seems like they made a mistake and poured a pilsener into an oktoberfest bottle. Doesn’t seem to style at all. However, I enjoyed the hop flavors and rated it as such.

2.4 AROMA 3/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 10/20
UPDATED: JUN 28, 2006 I am not overly fond of octoberfest beers so I did not go into this one with a whole lot of hope. Sampled from a 12 oz green bottle. The beer pours a pale golden color with a large white head. The aroma is sour malts with a mildly vegetal element. The flavor is sour malts with a sweet almost sugary undertone. The finish is tangy. Nothing special.
