The Munich Beer Festival, or Oktoberfest, is an event of superlatives - it’s the largest popular festival in the world, staging in the beer metropolis of Munich. Millions of visitors from all over the world flock along every year to enjoy its very special atmosphere. For this occasion, Hofbräu brews a rich, full-bodied beer which goes down ideally with traditional Bavarian cuisine. With its deliciously bitter taste and alcoholic content of 6.3% volume, Hofbräu Oktoberfestbier is as special as the Beer Festival itself.

Bottle. Clear yellow / golden color with a large good lacing white head. Aroma is moderate malty, bread and light hoppy, grass, hay. Inital flavor is ligth to moderate sweet and bitter, finish flavor is ligth to moderate sweet and moderate bitter with a average to long duration. Nice hoppy finish. Body is medium, texture is oily, carbonation soft to lively.

This beer pours unlike any other Oktoberfest I have tried, which makes me leery right off the bat. Clear dark golden color with a thick and fluffy white head that dissipates slowly. Lager-ish aroma of mild hops and malt. Light-bodied with hops and grainy malt flavors that don’t have much staying power. The finish is mildly bitter with touches of citrus. Below average across the board.

Bottle from Holiday Wine Cellar: Clear golden color with a small white head. It has a light sweet corn aroma. The flavor is malty sweet and grainy with a light spicy bitterness and light dry finish. Light-medium bodied with lively carbonation.

500ml bottle: poured yellow with a medium sized white head. Moderate skunky aroma with some herbal hops. This one may have sat outside of my local getranke a little too long. Herbal hop flavor with more skunk. Finishes moderately bitter with a slight metallic note. Probably better fresh but this has been sitting in my cellar for a few months at around 60 degrees F.

Draft. Don’t drink this beer for its "palate". Drink it from a dimpled glass, wearing lederhosen, in a large tent, in Munchen on the first week of October.

Very malty, dry aftertaste, with a nose that can only be referred to as "generic malty lager". Not the best Hofbrau.

UPDATED: SEP 22, 2007 Really nice label with a nice history on it - I imagine an oompah band playing in the background as I crack the lid on this green 12 oz bottle. Smells a little skunky. Pours ligth transparent yellow. A lighter flavor and tastes better than Penn O’fest. Not bad. The crown prince ludwig Ok’d this for my tasting. Nice finish with just a little hop/malt linger.

More like a Pilsner than an Marzen, its taste is grassy, high hoppy and medium bodied malts. Still doesnt’t taste like a Marzen though

Bottle 0.5 L. Clear amber body, with a white, frothy head, mostly diminishing but with a fair lacing. Aroma is mainly sweet due to the malt, with light hops and alcohol notes. Flavour is moderate-to-hevy sweet with a light bitter character. Body is light-to-medium with a watery texture; flat carbonation; light astringent and alcholic feelings in the finish; maybe a metallic note is also present. Not great, but a pleasent beer.

Clear, solid gold body with a receding, pure sudsy white head. Aroma has pils malt signatures but also strongly suggests sweet corn. Also includes an acrid yeast note. Sweet, pale malty flavor with honey tones and some moderate peppery bitterness. Like a generic pale lager with a little more gravity. No sign of toasted malts. Nothing compelling here.
