The Munich Beer Festival, or Oktoberfest, is an event of superlatives - it’s the largest popular festival in the world, staging in the beer metropolis of Munich. Millions of visitors from all over the world flock along every year to enjoy its very special atmosphere. For this occasion, Hofbräu brews a rich, full-bodied beer which goes down ideally with traditional Bavarian cuisine. With its deliciously bitter taste and alcoholic content of 6.3% volume, Hofbräu Oktoberfestbier is as special as the Beer Festival itself.

Average for an Oktoberfest. Less full bodied than other (better made) Oktoberfests, but there is an appeal to this one- lying mostly in the fact that it’s actually made in Germany and sports a cool German label.

Beautiful crystal clear golden yellow body with a foamy white head. Bready, German lager aromas. Delicious yeasty bread flavor and medium bodied. A little lemon tartness and good noble hop bitterness. There’s a subtle astringency that for some reason (unfortunately) reminds me of American light lager flavor. Finishes with a lasting noble hop bitterness and residual alcohol. Very good Oktoberfest beer!

Pours clear, pale gold. Small, bubbly white head. Aroma of bread, caramel, dough. Taste is malty, slightly sweet, a bit earthy. Light body, with a thin and watery consistency. Average carbonation. Finishes crisp, refreshing, with a slight lingering sweetness. Refreshing and highly drinkable but nothing to write home about.

In a flight at Hackney’s Printers Row. Clear yellow pour. Plenty of white bread and a whiff of booze on the nose and palate. Light sweet caramel. Clean finish. Not much to it.

500ml bottle into weizen glass. Pale amber beer with towering solid white head. Faint grainy nose. Medium carbonation, fine bubbles. Flat mouthfeel with slightly dry grainy finish. These Oktoberfest beers are obviously designed to be drank quickly and often. Very smooth, goes down easy.

Pours gold with a trace of a white head. Aroma is earthy, straw and hay. Taste is sweet with light acidic tartness. Light bodied, smooth and an enjoyable brew all around.

Faint malt aroma, okay head. Nice sweet lager flavour with malt notes. Not bad, not great.

Aroma suave e malte bem presente no corpo. Carbonatação média. Parece uma lager. Muito boa.

Appearance: clear straw with one finger of rocky white head, excellent retention and good lacing. (4/5) Aroma: light biscuity pale malt, honey, grassy. (5/10) Taste: mild sweet, very mild bitter. (5/10) Medium-light body, moderate carbonation, crisp finish. (3/5) Yeah, this tastes like the kind of thing you’d drink litres of at the Hofbräuhaus München. While listening to the oompah band. And eating pretzels as big as your head. Not exciting, but authentic. Now I want to go back to the Hofbräuhaus... (12/20)

Bottle. Pours a clear light orange with a quickly fading off white head. Aroma of orange, woody, hint of spice and metallic. Taste is metallic, caramel, copperish finish. Medium to high carbonation, light mouthfeel.

UPDATED: OCT 5, 2015 Not much on the eyes. Pretty pale yellow and with minimal head. Slightly metallic aroma, not the best sign. But fear not, a beautiful malty and strong marzen hides behind its scruffy exterior. Mid to high carbonation followed by a mild sweetness of cereal and malts. At 6.3% abv it’s a stronger festbier and maybe one of the best tasting. Prost!
