The Munich Beer Festival, or Oktoberfest, is an event of superlatives - it’s the largest popular festival in the world, staging in the beer metropolis of Munich. Millions of visitors from all over the world flock along every year to enjoy its very special atmosphere. For this occasion, Hofbräu brews a rich, full-bodied beer which goes down ideally with traditional Bavarian cuisine. With its deliciously bitter taste and alcoholic content of 6.3% volume, Hofbräu Oktoberfestbier is as special as the Beer Festival itself.

Pours clear golden with a fluffy white head. Strong grassy aroma with a touch of yeast and malt. Very bitter and malty in flavour, overpowering the herb and orange characters which are just present. Slight alcohol taste on the palate. Tasty, but malt too strong.

Bottle. Looking lovely in the glass, a sparkling, clear, golden colored body is topped by a creamy, whtie head leaving curtains. It’s a bit sweetish on the nose, at least compared to my preferences, with a nice maltyness in the back, and grassy, almost resiny hops up front. Perhaps a tad too grainy, as well, but that’s in the aroma only. The flavor though is a bit sweet, but for a 6.3% beer it’s ok. Still it’s quite dryish on the palate, far from sticky, with a carbonation level that cleans away what’s left of malty stickyness on the tongue and roof of the mouth. There’s malty sweetness and some white bread in the flavor, with a soft bitterness and some grassy hop flavors. Hints of hay too. The finish could use some more bitterness, the initial flavor too actually, but all in all it’s a nice beer. Too strong to be an all-nighter, but tasteful and pleasant. A pity you have to go to the alcohol monopoly stores to get it in Norway. 140918

Bottles are slightly skunky but still classic marzen style malty sweetness. Mini kegs are the way to go. Super fresh and perfect pairing for the brats and kraut

500 ml bottle. Clear golden body with a medium sized white head. Light but nice aroma of bread, some fruit and grassy hops. Flavor is light malty, medium sweet, some bitterness and light fruit. Medium body and moderate in aftertaste. Nothing really special, but actually a nice and easy drinkable lager. No problem to see people drinking this by bigger volume.

Ljust gul med vit liten snabbt försvinnande krona. Brödig lätt, tunn doft. Smaken är extremt lättsam och ganska tunn med en umamieftersmak.

500ml brown bottle. Appearance is clear pale golden with a medium sized frothy off-white head, that reduced quickly leaving a little lacing. Aroma is slightly skunked, grains, wheat bread and caramel, . Flavours of cereal, caramel, spices and a hint of lemon zest and alcohol. Taste is light sweet and medium bitter. Palate is light-medium bodied, slightly oily texture and average carbonation. Overall Hofbräu München Oktoberfestbier is just okay, the aroma is poor and the alcohol is slightly too noticeable.
