2.2 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 10/20
50cl bottle, Edeka. - Very pedestrian typical grainy Helles, palpably at ease with its modest origins as macro-batched wort and its second life as liquid cardboard box to quench the masses. Not in the least refreshing, tired, hops (extracts?) struggling to free themselves from their sticky malt grip. - Maybe this old-school lazy tradition-keeper of a beer makes more sense from draught, in a 1L mug, in a leafy Biergarten, in June, in Bavaria...

2.6 AROMA 3/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20
Half-litre in the new Berlin Hofbrau Hall: 24 Feb 2013.
Usual helles/plisner/lager look and feel: bright gold, clear and clean, thin snowy white head that doesn’t like hanging around too long.
Neither sweet nor dry: neither hoppy or malty, a run of the mill brew that I enjoyed because of the place and company where I had it.
Nothing stands this apart from the thousands of simular brews around the world: refreshing but standard fare really. Just above your average mass produced lager type beers.
