3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 aobecksy (661) - Middle of no where, Ohio, USA - NOV 16, 2002
UPDATED: SEP 22, 2007 I drink this on tap at least twice a week (and several times in one sitting). Its beautiful golden hue is attractive. It has a clean, crisp honey taste with overlays of floral. Pilsneresq (which equals perfect for me). Love it, love it and will love it again. Oh and... (reason for rerate) meet me at the K-ville Inn, Shelby County Ohio on 274 at the street light for one on tap --with authentic german food the first weds of every month)
3.4 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20 urbnhautebourg (997) - Annapolis, Maryland, USA - NOV 12, 2002
UPDATED: JUN 25, 2007 Update: Fresher samples reveal a very nice, good smelling, textbook Helles. Nothing earthshattering, but a really nice dynamic balance of malt sweetness with dryness. Of the Big Five Munich breweries, I would place HB’s somewhere in the middle, behind Lowenbrau and Augustiner, but ahead of Spaten. Old: Green bottle mayhem perhaps? Not a lot of flavor in this Helles. Beautiful big foamy head, good clarity can’t make up for a Helles lacking in malt. Disappointing. 2.8

Medium gold clear with medium size and lasting white head. Faint sappy hops aroma. Mild bitter faintly floral hop flavours. It’s just another larger really, I canlt see why it rates so highly - it must be my toothache or maybe I just find it hard to get excited about lagers.
2.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 9/20 jonas (4613) - Garching b. München, GERMANY - OCT 8, 2002
Pretty average.
Malty, well-balanced aroma. watery boring aftertaste.
2.8 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20 heykevin (1269) - Decorah, Iowa, USA - OCT 3, 2002
Pale, thinand slightly water, slight hop skunk. Does not seem true to style to me, I agree with legion242 about it being more pils-like. Slightly sweet finish.
3.1 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 legion242 (1873) - Richardson, Texas, USA - SEP 29, 2002
Pale to medium yellow color. Decent retention and semi-fluffy head. Pleasent mild hop w/ small amount of corn in the nose. Clean. Balanced. Slightly dry-ish. Much closer to a pilsner to me then is usual for a Munich Original.
3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20 Sigmund (3724) - Hafrsfjord, NORWAY - SEP 25, 2002
UPDATED: FEB 9, 2005 (Sampled 500 ml bottle, bought in Norway). A decent Helles with a pleasant aroma. Flavour and aftertaste OKish, but far from exceptional.
3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 Fust99 (1) - Vaassen, NETHERLANDS - SEP 21, 2002 does not count

Nice hop presence with a tinge of malt - especially for a lager. Slight urine smell (needless to say I found this unpleasant). Although rather full for a beer of this type it’s still pretty thin. It’s a lager, what can I say?
3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 softale (188) - Michigan, USA - SEP 13, 2002
Don’t be fooled by this beer’s light golden color because it has some body. It’s malty character is balanced nicely with some flavorful hops. A very good lager.
