Nothing earthshattering, but a really nice dynamic balance of malt sweetness with dryness. Of the Big Five Munich breweries, I would place HB’s somewhere in the middle, behind Lowenbrau and Augustiner, but ahead of Spaten. Old: Green bottle mayhem perhaps? Not a lot of flavor in this Helles. Beautiful big foamy head, good clarity can’t make up for a Helles lacking in malt. Disappointing. 2.8

I’m not normally a pilsner fan but this is one of my favorite beers. The only thing better than a bottle at home is a stein nicht weit vom Rathaus. Munchen, meine lieblings trink Stadt.
I love the color, the flavor and the smooth drinking beer at the bottom of the glass.

This one poured a darker yellow color with a white head. Aroma was grassy hops, some corn, and cardboard. flavor was similar, without the cardboard, a pretty boring helles.

500ml bottle from the LCBO. pours golden with a lasting whit ehead. the aroma is of cereal grains, typical of this brewer and some floral hopping. the flavour is the same. highly drinkable. nice lager.

Welcome to Germany. This German lager pours a light yellow with a sweet malt and pilsner aroma. A very rich tasting lager with light hops and some light malt taste.

On tap. Pale golden with massive white head. Aroma sweet and malty with buttery notes. Taste is also sweet and buttery, some malt and grain. Low bitterness and hop flavor.

Sold as Hofbrau Helles at the Chinese Pagoda beer garden, Munich, April 2013. Thick white head in the liter glass. Malt and fresh bread. The beer is in prime condition, and admittedly the quality is likely helped by the fantastic atmosphere of the beer garden.

Poured from a bottle, San Diego. Fresh, sweet, fruity aroma. Smooth beer. Flavor is a bit metallic, with some mild fruitiness and some bitterness.
