I’m sure tasters with a more cultivated palate enjoy this beer far more than I do.
I couldn’t’ taste all the flavors their website boasted but I did notice the overpowering alcohol finish. The 2007 February seasonal topped out at 10.4% abv. One was all I felt like drinking.

On draft at the Hofbrau. Pours a deep clear amber with a decent off white head that diminishes but sticks around. Rich sweet caramely aroma. /taste is sweet roasted malt, maple, caramel and some hop bitterness. Alcohol evident but not stong or over powering. really good stuff; nice and fresh!

So, aroma is a little weak and the palate is a a little light for a dopplebock, but it is pretty good. Hints of caramel, chocolate, and roasted malts. I was surprised at the abv on it.

Half liter on tap at Hofbrauhaus Newport. Pours a nice mahogany color with a medium sized off-white head. Aroma is very malty and sweet with a mild nuttiness to it. Lots of caramel and toffee. Flavor starts out mellow and sweet with some more very sweet caramel notes and gains a bitterness in the back of the mouth with maybe a tiny hint of coffee. Never really got too bitter though and stayed malty in the finish. Medium body and moderate carbonation. A nice fresh dopplebock. Not sure how it would taste bottled and sent at a distance but at the location it was refreshing and surprisingly east drinking for the alcohol.

From a draft liter at the brewpub - It\’s just a very nice dopplebock, although a liter mug of it set me back seven bucks and sevebty-five cents!

An excellent Dopplebock. Had on tap at location during the Super Bowl. Caramel in the beginning with a balanced finish that’s not to short but doesn’t linger on. Thus it made an excellent session beer. 8.0% abv does give a slight headrush.
