3.3 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20 wxman (962) - O’Fallon, USA - MAR 17, 2011
Liter MaB on tap. Pours a rich clear pale amber/red with a decent white head. Aroma is fairly muted, but roasted malt and mild hoppiness is present. Taste is up front sweet roasted malt and caramel, similar to the dunkel, but more chewy and sweet with a bit more ABV. Very good!

On tap at Hofbrauhaus Newport, March 2010 Dark gold colour. Thin off-white head. Good mix of malt and grassy hop. Malts are not too bready. Fairly dry and very drinkable. This was the one I went back to for a pint after doing the sampler tray.
3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 FunkyBrewster (1385) - Chicago, Illinois, USA - MAR 25, 2010
Liter mug on tap at the brewhouse. Pours a deep golden amber with a rocky white head. Aroma is very basic, malty, some caramel and light nuttiness. Very bready, lightly toasted. Flavor starts with a smooth toasty malt and a just a light hop spice that adds a semblance of balance to the mostly sweet and grainy character. Medium body and a soft carbonation. While definitely not my favorite of Hofbrauhaus’ offerings, it was quite quaffable and refreshing before/after drinking big imperial stouts and DIPA’s.
3.2 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20 Acetobacter (816) - Pennsylvania, USA - MAR 8, 2010
This appears to be the exact same beer as that served at Hofbrauhaus Pittsburgh, hence the rating. Enjoyed via draft in a one liter stein. The beer pours a medium-dark amber color, with a moderately dense white head. The nose is quite similar to many of the other Hofbrauhaus offerings in that it features a bit too much grainy pilsner malt character and not enough rich Munich/CaraMunich/Special B malt character. This is true in both the nose, as well as on the palate. Bread, grain, and a subtle floral hop aroma come through in the nose. As the same warms, more malt depth is detectable in the palate, but the beer stills seems a bit insipid, and clearly lacks the depth seen in better examples of Oktoberfest and Vienna lager styles. Overall, decent, not much more.
2.9 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20 shigadeyo (2399) - Harrison, Ohio, USA - MAR 6, 2007
3/06/2007 at Hofbrauhaus Newport... Vibrant, clear, copper color with a muted ivory head. Not too much to the aroma or flavor. I was hoping for more malt and caramel flavors. Some mild grass and slightly spicy hoppiness in the flavor and a mild bitterness overall. Medium body, good carbonation level, pretty smooth and easy to drink. Palateable, but nothing all that great...
0.5 L draught.
3.4 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20 Tmoney99 (7307) - Cincinnati, Ohio, USA - APR 29, 2005
Draft at brew pub. Poured orange/amber with average off-white head. Very close to style with a malty flavor and aroma with an average finish. Small hop tone on the finish. Seasonal March brew. I will try again next year.
