4.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 10/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20 TheBeerLover (1019) - DC Metro Area, USA - JAN 24, 2006
Hofbrau Munchen Oktoberfestbier pours to a bright golden color, with a good white head, and a good carbonation. This beer is marketed in 1/2 liter bottles, and I pour two into my authentic 1 liter maas, the vessel they drink beer out of at Octoberfest. The nose on this beer is very malty. Really nice grain like, slightly sweet malt aromas are balanced out with some really nice grassy hop aromatics. The palate is firm, this beer showcases pale malts very well, you really have good malt flavor in this beer. The mouth feel is smooth, round and clean. This beer finishes with more malt up front, then in balanced with just the right amount of hop bitterness. Really a very well done, very drinkable brew. This beer is perfect with a roasted chicken dinner, and I think it would work quite well with grilled fish such as cod or blue. Of course you could pair this with bratwurst, saurkraut, and a hot, soft, German pretzel. Octoberfest is here!! Prost!!
3.5 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 9/20 beervana (781) - Libertyville, Illinois, USA - NOV 6, 2005
On tap at Firkin’s, Libertyville, IL. Clear golden yellow hued having a lasting large creamy head with good lacing. Sweet malt aroma. Soft carbonation. Medium-bodied that starts dry with hint of sweet malt flavor and finishes dry with light bitterness. A tasty clean, crisp dry Oktoberfest beer.
3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 wxman (1170) - O’Fallon, Illinois, USA - SEP 7, 2010
UPDATED: AUG 22, 2011 I think all the other raters are rating the wrong beer. The Hofbrauhaus beers at Newport KY are brewed and served ONLY on premises. You probably tasted the import from Munchen, which isn’t as good, in my view. This Oktoberfest is very much like the King Ludwig brewed at Newport, only with a slightly higher ABV. It has a clear pale amber appearance with a pretty full white head that lasts. It possesses a mild sweet aroma. Taste is malty sweet, with mild hop bitterness and a hint of caramel and spice. Refreshing.

Draft a brewpub. Dark amber with moderate off-white head that diminished slowly and had good lacing. Moderate aroma of hops. Medium body. Moderate flavor of spicy hops with small bitter finish.

On tap at the brewpub. Pours a clear light orange with a thick white head. Aroma of sweet malt and sweet fruit. Flavor of grainy pale malts, bready malt. A little staleness too even though this is fresh. It’s ok, fairly drinkable, but nothing I would seek out again. 6/4/6/3/12 (3.1/5)
2.9 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20 illinismitty (2270) - Nashville, Tennessee, USA - SEP 3, 2006
Draft at Newport brewery. Pours yellow orange with white head. Mild spicy hop aroma. Texture is slightly effervescent and thin. Pale malt and grainy maltiness in the flavor, followed by a spicy hop finish. Finish was semi-dry, soapy and grainy, not that great. I am rather surprised that a german brew house would have a mediocre octoberfest.

Very light head and a faint hoppy aroma ... very thin texture and mild taste .... has a hint of spices but the finish was disappointing...
