More than any other, Hofbräu Premium Lager embodies Munich’s character as a city of beer, spreading its fame throughout the world. Full-bodied with an alcoholic content of approximately 5.1% by volume, and offering a truly fine hops aroma, it is a superbly well-balanced lager. A MUNICH BEER WITH CHARACTER! Type: Bottom-fermented Lager.

Nice and crisp. A little hops with some light malts. Not too heavy and refreshing.

The best beer that I have had. On a hot summer night after a long day of work, this beer was simply amazing. Great flavor, just a good strong lager.

Draft at Newport. Tastes like Molson. Drink it quick before it gets warm . I liked this place, but it probably be better with a crowd and lots of HofBraufraus.

Single 1 pt, 9oz bottle: Taste: slight hops taste, but mostly a very light sweet malt taste, some yeast taste, hints of citrus, definitely light on all of these. Not much taste of anything. Watery palate makes it pretty close to bud light, but a little bit lighter and sweeter with less bitter hos taste and with less aftertaste. Nothing special. Appearance: Clear golden color, smells like apple juice, good head, but poor retention. I got through about half of it. Anything from the Hitachino Nest line is better than this adn there are better beers than those, too.

Pours bright golden with a fully receding off-white head. Aroma is very clean, with light lager breadiness. Taste is clean, lightly bready, with notes of cookie and toasted malt. Mouthfeel is light to medium bodied with lively carbonation. Wasn’t expecting to be blown away by multiple facets of flavor. Nicely paired with the notoriously heavy German fare.

UPDATED: AUG 21, 2009 On tap at the Hofbrau Hof in Newport KY. A Munchener lager that is sweeter and less hoppy than a pils. This one served up a bright golden with a rocky white head that stays. A good example of the style, but not better than many U.S. microbrewery lagers served up fresh. Was hoping for something more remarkable and Germanlike, but a smooth delicious thirstquencher nevertheless.

Draught at the brewery. Medium light yellow in color. Lemon, banana and corn esters in the nose. A bit tingling on the tongue, nice and crisp. Lightly syrupy as well. Very strong sweet corn flavor. Overall it’s a little above average for lagers, certainly drinkable, and an OK attempt by the brewery at a German helles, but it doesn’t knock my socks off.

Clear, light amber body, firm white head. Malty aroma with a clean Saaz hop aroma. Well balanced, easy drinking. Good use of hops and malt. Crisp and clean. Not over the top, but good hop presence for the style and sufficiently malty.

On tap in Newport. It was golden and clear with a small white head. Well balanced but light in both malt and hops. No aftertaste. It could use more malt character and more hops. It was pleasant went down quickly. Nothing memorable
