COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
White fine-poured foam sparkles quietly before you and forms a solid uniform layer on top of the light golden brew. You can smell the malt, hops and yeast which are subtly coordinated- and after repeated sniffing you will also discover the flowery fragrance. The impression is easy to retain, and that makes it the Original, Full-bodied, yet not too robust. Always well escorted by a truly fine hops aroma, in no way bitter, but also not just malty.

Very happy to have the Hofbrauhaus right across the river. This reminds me of a long afternoon spent at the original Hofbrauhaus in Munich many years ago. Ironically I find it not to be as good as another Cincinnati dortmunder. But it is the Hofbrauhaus Original.

On tap: it’s a solid lager that although it doesn’t disappoint, it doesn’t excite me either. It’s earthy in flavor, but lacks most everywhere else. Refreshing.

On tap at the brewpub. Pours a clear light orange with a thick white head. Aroma of bready malt and light fruits. Flavor of sweet bready malts. A little dull although certainly drinkable. 6/4/6/4/14 (3.4/5)

On tap at Hofbrauhaus Newport, March 2010 (as Premium Lager). Quite pale gold. Very slight haze. Clean and slightly sweet. Pleasant enough if not particularly remarkable. Did the job OK.

Shared some of a friend’s half liter at Hofbrauhaus Newport. Pours a clear gold with a small white head. Aroma of malt, yeast, grain, corn, and light hops. Flavor follows suit. Light bodied, well-balanced, completely unassuming and unpretentious. Crisp, refreshing, and a light malty aftertaste. A nice example of the style if you’re looking for a base to draw from.

Pour was clear gold with a nice white head and spotty streaks of lacing. The aroma is malty, lightly yeasty and a bit of corny sweetness. The flavor is corny sweetness, lightly toasted malt and a bit of light spicy hops on the backside. Thin in body. Clean finish. Decent.

Nice and crisp. A little hops with some light malts. Not too heavy and refreshing.
