Pours a clear amber color with a soapy cream-colored head. Aroma of caramel, bread. and toffee. Caramel and toffee flavor with bread backbone. Great example of a marzen.

APPEARANCE- looks like a true style Oktoberfest, like a marzen should. Better head than mor beers ive drinken at Munich’s octonerfest (an interesting note for my followers, my profile pic on RB is a selfie from the Haufbrau tent in 2014). NOSE- very little of anything in the nose. FLAVOR- very light flavor. Probably good for drinking large quantities at the event, bit if I want a beer that has some character, this isn’t it.

On draft at the Bavarian Lodge in Lisle, IL. Pours a deep amber orangish color with an off white head. Aroma of herbal hops and caramel malt notes. Flavor is bitter with herbal hop presence surrounded by sweet caramel and toffee malts. Full bodied, thick mouthfeel, lively mouthfeel with a caramel and bitter hop finish. Overall, nice.

Bottle. Slightly hazy amber colour with a medium white head, surprisingly hoppy aroma with spicy, floral, almost perfumed notes but also some hints of chocolate and toffee, taste is more malty and a bit roasty with a nice dry finish and also some booziness, creamy mouthfeel. Nice one!

Pours a hazy ripened peach colour, good and long lasting head of foam. I get fruity and bready notes in the smell. Kinda sweet but kinda not. Bready in the taste but dominated over by some kind of stone pitted fruit. I can’t quite pull out what it is but it’s distracting. Great mouthfeel. Code on the label: 41517060. ? 41st day of 2015? Not worthy of a future visit.

Bottle. The best Oktoberfest beer I’ve ever had. Cloudy, amber in color with a nice fluffy head. Aroma was caramel and roasted grains. Taste was caramel, nutty roasted grains and malty goodness. Nice.

500 ml bottle from Bottle Shop, Salzburg.
Amber-orange, clear body, with a big, fluffy, moderately lacing, yellowish head.
Aroma of bread, caramel, sweet fruits, flowers, grass.
Tastes of caramel, bread, flowers, must, sweet fruits, grass, some fresh herbs.
Quite light, slick mouthfeel, with an average carbonation.
Finishes moderately bitter, sweet, bready, floral, a bit grassy, slightly herbal.

Really nice. Pretty much how I like a Märzen, but rarely ever find, brewed in the traditional style and not as flat and characterless as many examples today. Full malt body, while easy drinkable. Not my very favourite Austrian style example (Augustiner in Salzburg is unbeatable), but among the best.
