4.2 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
500ml bottle. Pours a clear deep gold. Tart apple, dusty tannins, leather and struck flint, with some citrus leaf notes make up the aroma. Tart, bittersharp apple up front leads into leather and serious tannic grip in the mid-palate. A little hint of apple sweetness leads into the finish, which is tart and cleansing. This is a serious dry cider, about as far from commercial lolly-water as cider can get. It is very reminiscent of Gwynt y Ddraig Black Dragon, and thatís about the highest praise that can be given to a cider.

3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
Bottle from shelf.
Pours golden with a quick rise and fall of the head, itís got plenty of bubbles on the side of the glass with only a few tiny ones rising.
The aroma is beautiful, limestone, hay and horsebarn. The apple character is there but itís actually surprisingly light.
The flavor is tart and earthy, even minerally at points. Itís defiantly got some apple, but there is a lot more apple-skin flavor and the apple flesh flavor is pretty subdued. Iíve had apple skin forward ciders before, in my meager experience this one seems to be pretty low on bitterness for this type of flavor profile. Itís dry, not bracingly so... but there is not much sweetness in there either.
Maybe I donít "get" English Ciders because I keep being really impressed by these ones that are rated really low. Maybe ratebeer doesnít "get" English Ciders... either way Iím glad Iím not buying these by the Ratebeer score, because Iíd be missing out on a whole bunch of really enjoyable cider.

Bottled. Golden colour, small white head, that disappears quite quickly. Aroma is sweet apples, some apples sourness, mild earthy and fruit sugary notes. Flavour is ripe apples, green apples, fruit sugars, some earth and mild wooden tartness to it. Balanced, and has a nice palate.

2.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 10/20
Crosspoint TossCo. Headless gold with steady carbonation. Juicy aroma beckoning with calamine, dank fallen fruit, Chewits. Thin and acidic beyond with almond and rubbery notes; booze, no real fruit or complexity.

2.8 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20
500ml bottle. Pours with a crystal clear yellow hue with a quick to fade white head. Aromas are sulfuric and bretty. English style dry, earthy, chimney, leather, bacon and ripe apples. Flavors are sulfury and leathery, beef jerky, meaty sulfur, bacon, light apples. Phenols and chlorophenols are distracting to say the least. Not really drinkable. Medium carbonation, off dry. Messy.

2.9 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 12/20
Medium yellow with a thin, fizzy, disappearing, white head with no lace. Smells of rustic apples fresh from the farm, apple peel, leather, yeast, sweet apple and acidity. Light watery thin body with soft carbonation. Tastes sweet at first with a woody centre but it becomes overpowered by a bitter, acidic, dry, astringent apple finish. I donít prefer the acidity sort of ciders but I didnít find it offensive. Easy to drink enough and clearly not mass manufactured but more home-made.

3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
Bottle. Head is initially very small, fizzy, white, fully diminishing. Body is medium yellow. Aroma is moderately yeasty (barnyard, horseblanket), notes of apple w/skins, oak, brown sugar, band-aid, earth. Flavor is moderately sweet, lightly to moderately acidic, lightly bitter. Finish is lightly sweet, lightly to moderately acidic, lightly to moderately bitter. Light to medium body, watery texture, soft carbonation, lightly to moderately astringent. As with the Medium cider, this is really good stuff. Wonderful aroma with lots of enticing elements working in harmony...nothing sticks out too much. Very nice flavor balance and very little carbo makes this frightfully easy to knock back as quickly as drinking water. Not quite as aromatically rich as the Medium, but a bit more drinkable/balanced (not as sweet), so the overall scores are close.
