COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
A classic perry in every sense of the word, Hoganís use only 100% English perry pears to produce their Vintage Perry. The perry pears are treated with kid gloves, every one is harvested by hand and gently washed to ensure the best quality. Perry pears are unpalatable to eat due to their high tannin level but create a delicious, delicate drink. The pears contain a natural, unfermentable sugar, sorbitol, which gives the perry some of its residual fruit sweetness. As with our ciders we do not add any sugars prior to fermentation and we do not use any concentrate, we ensure that all our perry contains more than 85% perry pear juice in order to bring you the authentic taste of the English Pear Orchard. Hoganís Vintage Perry (5.4% abv) is a medium, lightly sparkling perry, champagne like in colour, well balanced on the palate with subtle fruit tannin qualities and delicate fruit aromas.

500ml bottle, 2010 vintage. Pours an attractive clear, deep gold. Mildly tannic skin notes, vanilla and pear juice make up the aroma. Tart pear skin and a slight leathery flavour up front lead into subtle, slightly sweet pear fruit in the mid-palate. A slight lemon flavour gives it a nice, crisp finish. I donít know why this rates so poorly; it is a very good example of proper, English medium-dry perry. Very enjoyable.

Bottled. Still but a fizz upon pour. Pale colour. Fresh, fruity pear aroma. Light, fresh character. This perry is mellow and refreshing with an easy-going pear character and a hint of apple as well. Good, but I wonder if it isnít a bit simple.

From a bag in a box at the Barley Mow, Bristol 21/10/2012 @ 5.4% ABV. Slightly hazy gold with a faint tinge of green. Light aroma of pear with a hint of wood. Flavour had some more, sweetish, pear juice with some cores and a medium finish. Good.

500ml bottle (Kaisla, Helsinki)
Very pleasant crisp estery aroma, peary and appley. Pleasantly sweet but a little watery perhaps. Clean pears i the taste, with a nice sharp bite too. Very pleasant quaffer, slips down too easily. Overpriced at 11e though.

Bottle, courtesy of fonefan. (2009 vintage.) A quite golden perry, clear and almost without anything head-like on top. Sourish, almost vinegar-ish aroma with lots of orchard aromas and some apple cores. Alcohol also it seems, strange. Flavorwise itís nice and pleasant, both apples and pears, with apple cores, hints of yeast and an earthy touch. Medium body, dry. A nice perry indeed, definitely one I could drink more of. 110128
