Bottle @ The Train Tasting Pt II. A bottled bitter? Living large tonight! The pour’s hazy golden amber with a small head. The nose is mild vomit. A bit of pear, toffee. The taste is bilious. Totally unenjoyable. Something’s strongly amiss. Flagged for re-rate.

2.8 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 10/20
Bottle during the High Speed Tasting Pt. II on the train back to London after the Black Country Bus Tour. Pours cloudy gold with a creamy, white head. Smoky pale malts in the nose. Light sweet flavor with minerals and dried dough. Light bodied with hefty carbonation. Dry mineral finish with more off, smoky malt malts. This beer is a little off.

2.6 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 10/20
Bottle on the second train tasting, black country beer bus bash. Thanks to Ian. Hazy, yellow orange colour with a thin white head. Alcohol in the aroma also stale grain and light grass. Some tart assertive dirty bitter. Some rusty penny. Meh.

Bottle on the Black Country Train Tasting Part ZWEI, 06/07/13, thanks to Ian and his work colleague - presumably from the same drop he acquired when he rated this a year ago which may explain a little - but probably not a lot !?!

Nose is bready malts, fruits, on the thin side.
Taste comprises light smoke, touch of caramel, fruits, pretty blando.
Medium bodied, moderate carbonation, dry finish with a little bitterness.

3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
Bottle from the Co-Op, Syston. Slightly cloudy amber ale with a thick head. Faint floral citrus hops aroma. Dry and moderately bitter with some general gingery hoppiness. End result = very drinkable ale if not particularly complex.

3.2 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
500ml Bottle. It pours with a thin white head that disappears fairly quickly over a medium gold body. Its bottled conditioned so is a little cloudy. Interestingly the bottle was stood upright for 2 weeks before being stood in the fridge, yet still had sediment on 1 side of the neck as if it had been laying upside down. Anyways I digress. Its nose is of mostly earth tones - grass being quite prominent. Taste - WTF???? This beer is as smokey as a Belian Ale?! Extreme unusual heavy smokey taste with a bitter finish. The smokiness of this beer is very unexpected and not what I would expect (or want) from a bitter. That said its not unpleasent when you know what you’re getting.

2.7 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 10/20
500ml bottle from a colleague at work. Mid gold clear, with big cream head. Yes well these are a bit odd as a brewery. Some rubber but some hop and some sweet fruit too. Over carbonated so decanted it. Still this funny rubber thing going on in the finish. Starts well but tails off, but better than I was expecting but it still has a fault which I did expect

2.1 AROMA 3/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 3/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 9/20
Cask handpull, The Racehorse, Northampton, 07/05/11. Pale gold with a level top. Vinegared aroma with green herb hints. Still and soured with just a dribble of vanilla and green leaf matter. Awful but in mitigation, very badly treated. Worst conditioned beer in a GBG-recommended pub ever. Until I went next door...
