3.5 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Bottle from Beers of Europe. Dark brown pour with a tan head, soon disappears like my beloved West Ham’s title dreams. Nose of coffee, chocolate, caramel and roasted malts. Nice aroma. Dark chocolate, coffee and licorice flavours. Light, bitter bite. Dry roast bitter finish. Not bad.

Cask handpull, The Malt Shovel, Northampton. Jet with tiny red tints and a mushroom halo. Sesame and watery Marmite aroma. Thin and barely carbonated; pleasant ash and damp sesame, apple, soot and dry roasted. Decent, but lacks the body and mouthfeel of a stout.

Eggy and irony aroma. It tastes as if I were drinking beer from an ashtray or a barbecue. Pretty mental. Not as unpleasant as I may have made that seem.

Cask conditioned at Banbury Beer Fest ’09. Black with tan head. Deep, darkly flavoured Stout, lots of good cocoa, burnt type flavours with an ashy woody flavour there too. Complex and rewarding, really pretty good.

Bottle. Very dark brown colour, and the beige head is keeping up, despite being on the small side. Intense chocolate aroma. Add chocolate and some berries to the roasted flavours and you will have the taste profile of this beer. Solid stout.
