Cask conditioned at Banbury Beer Fest ’09. Black with tan head. Deep, darkly flavoured Stout, lots of good cocoa, burnt type flavours with an ashy woody flavour there too. Complex and rewarding, really pretty good.

My first beer from this brewery, which is a very small scale affair based in the brewer’s garden shed. Black colour. Slightly vinous, woody aroma, with smoky cigar box notes and some fruity licorice. Bitter chocolate and burnt malt flavours on the palate. Not the most powerful stout, but quite pleasant. Cask (gravity dispense), St Albans Beer Festival 2004. Incidentally, the festival programme showed this as 5% ABV. I don’t know whether that was a misprint or the ABV has been upped.
