(bottle) Clear, amber to copper colour with a short and slightly tanned foamy head. Slightly toasted caramel-malty aroma with hints of liquorice and berry-fruity hops. Mildly bitter and slightly sweet flavour, light to almost medium bodied with a soft carbonation. Cara-malty base with liquorice-spice; initially subtle fruity notes which are getting stronger towards the dry-ish and moderately bitter hoppy finish. Nice and rounded Ale. 11.III.12

Bottle. Amber, small to average and fully diminishing head. Moderate malty and sweetish aroma, some caramel and light fruitiness, light roasted malt and light grassy hoppyness. Medium malty and sweetish flavor with some caramel and light fruitiness, light grassy hoppyness. Finish is average, malty and lightly sweetish, light caramel and light fruitiness, light roasted malt and some grassy - herbal hoppyness. OK sweetish and fruity bitter - bit too sweet and too much caramel for my taste.

Bottled, 500ml from Notcutts Garden Centre, Oxford. Amber with white head. As my Uncle Alan (rip) was a Burma Star veteran, this one was for him. Sharp, malty flavours, grainy with some biscuit, ovaltine, then a hint of boiled veg typical of Hogs Back bottled beers. Dryness in the close. Not sure.
