A light and very refreshing golden ale, named after the many hop gardens that used to be found in the fields surrounding the brewery and throughout the Farnham Valley. Crafted with a fine blend of best English malted barley and fresh local Fuggles hops from one of the last hop farms in the area, Hop Garden Gold is a perfect balance of aroma and bitterness, with a slight hint of fruit and sweetness.

Aroma: some caramel malts. Appearance: dark gold, small white head. Taste: light bitter. Palate: malty sweetness coming up quite quickly, flat to light carbonation. Overall: this is actually surprisingly nice! Bottle from Hogs Back Brewery, Tongham.

Bottle from Waitrose. Label states 4.4%. Sweet malt, some fruit. Slightly fusty. Not my favourite style of beer, really.

Clear medium orange yellow colour with a small to average, frothy, good lacing, mostly lasting, off-white to white head. Aroma is moderate malty, toasted - caramel, sweet malt, light hoppy, UK hops. Flavour is moderate sweet and bitter with a long duration, swweet malt, fruity, UK hops. Body is medium, texture is oily, carbonation is soft. [20131012]

Pours a copper colour without a head. Has an aroma of sweet rotten veg. Has a sweet taste to begin with which is followed by a rotten veg taste.

Bottle, poured into tulip glass. Pours a tarnished brass colour with a thin white head. Aroma is nondescript bitter - some malt, some hop. Flavour is straight down the middle. Short, bitter finish, gentle carbonation. OK.

This was a decent county tick that I stumbled across in Stratford at the grocery store. For the price I would have bought more if I did not have a big backlog of beers to drink before the trip home.

Aroma / Appearance - The caramel bronze base has a soft white head that fades away very quickly. Watered down shots of caramel give it the tinge of overdone brownies that are still chewy in the middle. Everything is pretty low key.

Flavor / Palate - Caramel, noble hops, and muddy twigs are acceptable but do not have an amazing presence. The earthiness that grounds the malts hold back the hops for a while. Eventually they do come through and leave a mild bitter finish. This is a passable beer but I would not have gone out of my way to buy it.

Bottled 15/08/13. An orange gold, headless beer. A bit fusty in the nose. Sweet and fusty in the mouth. Low hopping and caramel. Not really my thing which isn’t good as I’m a Farnham boy.

Nice light and golden bitter. Gentle on the bitter, fuller on the grassy hop floral flavours.
