2.8 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 12/20
Deep brown colour, the head lasts only few seconds. The aroma is hoppy and very spicy, quite disappointing. The flavour is lighter than I expected, with roasted malts, a port taste and some spicy hints (coriander above all). The finish is quite hoppy and bitter. Quite balanced and particular, but not really one of my favourite beers. Anyway, I don't think this beer could be considered a true porter beer...

3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 14/20
The bottle conditioned version: Deep red. Musty, woody and fruity aromas. Slightly solvent. Oily mouth feel with a touch of welcome sourness amongst the malty dark fruit flavours. The alcohol is obvious and some hops come from nowhere to linger nicely. There are several good seperate elements of this but whether they come together to form one really good beer may depend on taste. I think it’s fairly good.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bottle. Dark red-brown, almost opaque. Light brown head, persisting only round rim. Sweet, rich, winey, spicy, choccy, dark fruity aroma - toffee, molasses, fruit cake. Rich, dark flavours, dried fruits, spice, chocolate, lightly roast, raw brown sugar tasting malt, ever-present fruity alcohol (dessert wine or dark rum), hint of banana or vanilla maybe? Would probably go well with a pudding - pretty rich and not easily quaffable, but not sickly either. Almost flat. Medium body, slightly oily, smooth. Decent bitter balance with some dryness, but mainly sweet residues on the aftertaste (medium duration). Nice.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bottle conditioned 500ml @ home. Ruby coloured, not heavily carbonated, with a small off white head. Strong flavour of malt with some vanilla and a little liqourice. Alcohol quite noticeable on the tongue. A very easy drinking ’old ale’ type of beer which went down extremely well.
