Clear dark amber/copper with a thin off white head.
Nose of sweet malts, toffee fudge, butterscotch.
Tastes of dark toffee, dark fruits, prunes, dates, caramelised sugars, touch of booze.
Higher end of medium bodied with fine carbonation leading to a fruity finish.

I was feeling festive so thought I’d open this. Less than 100 days until Christmas and was feeling a little disappointed that the adverts haven’t started yet. Holidays are coming and all that. Can’t say this made me feel any more Christmassy but it did give me an afternoon wobble. Pleasant enough, strong aftertaste, quite sweet. Right, I’m off to buy my tree.

Bottled, 275ml a Christmas gift from Sandra. Reddy amber with no head. Full, fruity, viney beer, smooth and blackberry flavour, some peatiness in the background. The hops have been overtaken by the alcohol but all in all fairly decent.

Bottled@Monks Wallingatan, Stockholm. BBE 21.11.2008. Reddish amber colour, small off-white head. Aroma is toffee, alcohol, caramel malts, quite rich on wooden and fruity notes as well. Flavour is similar, with also some alcoholic sweetness. This one has afed beatifully.

Gravity cask at the Wandsworth Halloween BF 2011. Pours clear, rich ruby with a faint, white head. Tons of ripe fruits on the nose. Flavor is very sweet, lots of rich bread, cake, ripe and slightly tangy fruits, berries. Medium to full bodied with fine carbonation. Warm finish, loads of ripe fruits, light caramel, toasty sugar. Very decent strong ale.

Cask (gravity dispense) at the Pigs Ear Beer Festival, London on 6 December 2006. Dark reddish brown colour. Strong raisiny fruit aroma with some vinous notes and a slight herbal, medicinal feel. More rich fruit on the palate. Plums and prunes. Slightly woody. Rich and complex mouthfeel. A warming and satisfying strong ale.

275ml bottle. Pours a hazy amber with no head at all. Aroma is stewed apples, yeasty caramel malt and some alcohol. Some malt to start. Sweet malty finish with medium bitterness. A bit flat and lifeless.
