COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Look into the heart of darkness of this pitch black beauty. Take in the sweet caramel and roasted malty notes on the nose with a suggestion of the bacon goodness within. This full-bodied, rich and creamy oatmeal stout trots out a bold, unbridled taste that comes from a unique infusion of local Ottawa Valley heritage-raised “Pork of Yore” fine bacon. Blending in roasted malt and oatmeal for a solid footing, this smooth, dark beer has the perfect finish hinting of the fine swine contained within.

A deep darl ale with a thin mocha head. In aroma, light faint chocolate with light peated notes. In mouth, a light s$oked beer with light peaty bacon notes, powdery chocolate, decent.

Black pour at The Only. Deep black pour with a tight tan head. The aroma is softly toasty with a touch of fruit and some very faint smoke. Slightly berryish with faint sweetness. A touch of light pepper and some earthy bitterness. Decent stout although the smoke could be turned up a notch.

2013-03-29. Very dark brown black body small beige head. 3+ Interesting aroma, dark malt, modest woody smoke, muted mushroom like earthiness. 6++ Flavour is similar, dark malt core, dry roast, light smoke is interesting. Average bodied palate is a hair light for the beer. Not bad overall, it’s pretty decent but I don’t necessarily want more either as it is not really to my own tastes. Bottle courtesy of Gregclow.

Very drinkable nice mildly smoked stout. Poured with light head and opaque dark brown base. Very clean and drinkable. Nice extra dimension. Very well brewed. I would try again.

Bottle [size?] courtesy of GregClow. Pours a very dark brown, almost black, with an average size semi-lasting fluffy tan head. Some lacing on the glass. Aroma of smoke, toasted malt, oats, some earthiness, salt and a bit of dark fruit. Flavour of lightly toasted malt, light smoke, dark fruit, some coffee and some light hops in the earthy bitter finish. Average body is a little light for the style. Pretty good, it could use a little more smoke in the flavour but it’s not a bad beer by any means.

Done pretty well for a gimmicky concept. Bacon is just right enough to work. Smoky light bacon combines with good roast malt aroma. Pours black without much head or lacing. Average carbonation. Finishes a little meaty, a little bitter and definitely salty from the bacon. Tap at Arrow and Loon.

On tap at the Only Cafe. Pours a dark brown with modest tan head. Aroma is roasty chocolate and caramel with some underlying what I’d say is saltiness more than anything. Flavour is salty/smoky but doesn’t overpower the roasty chocolate/caramel. Not bad but felt a little gimmicky.

Enjoyed with the GF after work, when a snowstorm seemed to paralyze the streets of Ottawa. Time for a brew and some food. Poured a dark brown colour with a small head and minimal lace. Roasted malt nose with fruity hints, molasses and chocolate. Refreshingly wet, but with enough body, and all-around smooth. The fruitiness takes a bit over the burnt malt in the taste. Not really feeling the bacon anywhere though. More like a mild coffee and milk finish. Still, a good stout with fruity notes.
