3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 15/20
Clear gold with a medium foamy white head. Aroma is nicely hopped (American?) but by no means acidic or heavy. Smells a bit like earthy fresh picked hops with grass and light grapefruit rind, balanced with a bit of toffee-ish tones. Flavor is creamy and balanced with a lovely fresh-hop grassy bitterness and crisp blonde sweetness. Earthy leafy hops and a grapefruit-like bitterness are subdued but play a wee part in the start of the taste. A nice balanced and restrained ipa.

4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
On cask at the brewery (this is the Chinook dry-hopped version, also sampled the Galena hop version previously). Poured a clear, glowing golden color with a dense, creamy white head that left great lacing as it receded. Aroma of fresh, leafy hops paired with a bright citrus (orange, ripe apricot, pineapple even), some faint pine, and a light spiciness. Smooth, crisp entry with some delicate citrus notes (apricot, orange rind) that leads into a more agressive citrus hoppiness (grapefruit, orange pulp, pineapple) paired with a leafy, earthy hoppiness that follows into the moderately bitter, spicy, earthy finish that lingers on the palate. Crisp, smooth mouth feel that makes you feel bad about taking a break from enjoying. Overall, this bright, easy drinking IPA from an English style brewery puts a lot of "American IPAís" to shame. Awesome work from Hogshead.

4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Cask - pale gold, frothy head - very crisp, crackery, clean - the beauty of this brewerís beer is often in the expressive malts and complex yeast profile, but it, it is all about the hops - crisp, citric, tropical (pineapple) - maybe a little bit of mustiness from.the yeast, but mostly a great hop showcase, and quite a quaffable one.

3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Cask at Hogshead 1st anniversary. Galena dry hopped....donít really know this hop. Deep amber gold. Full bodied with really solid malt core. Plush mouthfeel...a lot of this is probably just the creamy cask qualities but really nice regardless. Mild hoppy finish...just really balanced and enjoyable.
>>Had the EKG dry hopped the next day. Preferred the Galena.

4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
UPDATED: AUG 16, 2013 Hazed gold body and a soft white head, it looks like Lake Lightning, thought I had that for a second after a strange non-mixup with the bartender. This firkin is dry-hopped with EKG but the previous one which ran out as I arrived was Galena, so Iím actually lucky that I found the EKG since I donít care much for the high AA strains like Galena (the Wakatu hopped Lake Lightning from the other night was excessively astringent). Hoppy, soft, creamy, wonderfully malty, much more a hoppy English pale /golden than any IPA (but call it an IPA for the local drinkers because "blonde ale" doesnít sell well). I donít know the alcohol but would guess around 5%. Rigid malt, great support. Some zingy shallot and garlic tinged pineapple rind hop character. The fruitiness reminds me of nelson sauvin hops. Dang nice beer and maybe the best new one from Hogshead in a while.
