At the brewpub, 14/8/2015. Golden in colour, with a foamy, off-white, head. Spritzy, easy drinking with a mineral edge, touch of berry fruit sweetness and gentle finish. Very welcome on a sweltering afternoon.

From barrel @Ma che siete venuti a fà (Rome). Pours amber with a medium foam. Aroma of bread, cereals, light hops, grass, yeasts, nice. Flavour is medium sweet with a light bitter end. Medium to light body, light carbonation. Another jewel from Franconia.

Dalla botte in birrificio. Ambrata con bella schiuma. Piuttosto dolciastra, malto che domina, finale un po’ più amaro

Fass at the brewery gasthof, May. 2013: Rich amber. Broken head holds a thin ring. Unpolished nose of plastic, wax, plum, and medicinal alcohol. Milder scents of licorice, breadcrust, and a blend of earthy/nutty malt. Soft carbonation. Tad thin. Breadcrust bitterness merges with a plasticlike phenolic spice. Off-putting grapelike sweetness overshadows the unsweetened chocolate and nutty java notes. Plummy acids exaggerate the absence of ripe malt, which causes the colalike sugars to become rampant. Virtually no hop flavor, and zero brightness to quell the tacky residuals. Finishes sugary and scantly hoppy with fuzzy, poorly defined malt. A rather lackluster country lager.

Draft at Hoh. Head is initially small, frothy, off-white, mostly lasting. Body is dark yellow to light amber. Aroma is lightly to moderately malty (malt syrup, grain), with notes of dishrag, rotting fruit. Flavor is moderately sweet, lightly to moderately acidic, lightly bitter. Finish is lightly sweet, lightly to moderately acidic, lightly to moderately bitter, unclean. Medium body, watery texture, soft carbonation. Horribly dirty tasting and sour. Apparently this is how it always is, based on comments from friends who visited before. Blech.

UPDATED: JUN 6, 2013 croc at the brewery. cloudy chestnut brown with a dense off-white head. spicy and peppery throughout with strong rustic noble hoppiness and medium-strong caramel / toasted grain malt character. medium-high acid, medium-thin body, semi-dry late, toasty and crunchy. light caramel / toffee munich malt late with lighter nut and toast flavors. hearty and very rustic.

re-try in May 2013: gotta say it seems more dirty, fizzy and cola-like than before. grape and apple malt syrup flavors; gravel / concrete mix dirtiness, etc.
