2.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 7/20
Sampler pack gift. Pours a golden amber color. Nice head for a "Marzen," doesn’t last long. A little watered down in my opinion. Surely lacks in complexity, only second beer from pack, hoping for some better ones. Not the worst I’ve had, but not good.

4 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
This is the last from the Historical Beer pack from Costco and does not make me think of either a marzen or lager. I think it is much better than either, and sorely underrated here. Mine tasted more like a hoppy amber. The head is actually better than the beer, which fades too quickly but I found this quite enjoyable (esp. given the supposed style(s)).

2.6 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 10/20
From the Historical Beers of America sampler from Sam’s Club. Pours amber orange with little to no head. Aroma is malty lager. Flavor is true to style for a marzen, and not bad. Malty with a bit of nasty lager flavor peeking through, but I’ve certainly had worse. It does have some bitterness to match the malt. Not much abv. A little better than average but nothing special.

2.3 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 9/20
Bottle. Pours ruddy amber with a small dissipating white head. Nose is lacking. Stewed hops, over-ripe fruits and watery caramel. Taste is a bit better. Sweet malts, better fruitiness, and caramel. Still lacking overall, though. Body is medium with mild carbonation. Finishes much the same as the flavor but thinner. First "bad" one I’ve had from the "Beers of America" set I got for my birthday yesterday. It’s not undrinkable, but it’s also not good.

2.8 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 11/20
Seems like I am one of the few who liked this beer. It had the color of caramel and almost no head. The aroma seemed to change through the glass. Over ripe apples and malts were evident throughout. Its flavor was a nice bitter with those aged apples again. It seemed to get smoother as the glass emptied. Quite nice.

2.4 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 8/20
Pure amber colored body with a better than expected cream colored head and nice lace. Lots of caramel aromas abound. Hints of grass and silage in the background. Wood sap also sneaks into the nose. Dry caramel and mild stomach acid flavors. The first sip make me want to reach for a pepcid. A pecan nut pith flavor really seems to fit. I was ready to call all these relabeled Berghoff brews. But this isn’t that good. A bad lager meets nut brown ale brew.

2.7 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20
Bottle. Pours a brown color with a large frothy white head that was lasting and produced good lacing. Average sweet malt aroma. Medium body with a creamy texture. Moderate sweet flavor with light bitter finish of average duration.

2.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 10/20
This is a week beer with no bite. Maybe I just dont like Marzen, but to me this is a very tame beer, I might as well be drinking a lite with half the calories.

2.1 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 8/20
Bottle. Nose-sour apple, caramel candy. Taste-very dusty and straw like. Slightly sour with a very low key sweetness. Astringen aftertaste. Dull and uninspiring.
