3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
Bottle 75 cl. Courtesy of bluebetty. Pours a hazy dark amber with a lacing off-white head. The nose is nutty with some wood, roasted malt and dry caramel. Medium body, surprisingly well-carbonated, spicy, woody notes, a whiff of smoke and dry overripe fruit. Extremely dry, surprisingly for the style, but it makes it very drinkable. Some bittering hops in the finish, but this really ainít a hoppy beer. A very different - but interesting - take on a Barley Wine. 241010

4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Bottle. Hazy brownish amber pour with a fizzy beige head that quickly diminishes to a ring around the surface. Malty, woody aroma has notes of honey, caramel, brandy, brown sugar and pinot noir as well as a hint of fruity hops, both citrus and tropical. The flavour is fruitier and more vinous but stil has a strong malt backbone; with notes of toffee, honey, passionfruit, pineapple, grapefruit, oak and grapes. Sticky, oily mouthfeel with moderate carbonation and a lingering, slightly roasty, bittersweet finish. Was delighted to get my hands on one of these babys and I wasnít disappointed. A very well crafted beer, the balance tips a bit towards sweet fruitiness in the flavour, but otherwise this is damn good. Wish I had another to cellar for a year or two...
