COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Caution!! Taste buds and motor-vehicle drivers beware!! This Belgian style "Abbey Ale" is BIG; big on flavour, big on alcohol and big on fun. The Belgian monks didn’t muck around when they created this beer style - double the malt, double the hops, double the alcohol and logically called it "Dubbel". The Holgate Double Trouble drinks like a fine cognac or brandy - intense raisin, toffee and rum flavours, to be sipped, savoured and enjoyed together with a cheese platter or sticky-date pudding.

A very smooth (especially for an 8% alcohol percentage) beer. A nice dubbel style ale. A honey/vegemite(!) aroma, taste has some cognac in it. Very nice and smooth, but just misses a little bit of ’oomph’

Poured a translucent honey brown colour with a big (3+ finger) light tan foamy head that retained well and laced well. Carbonation high with small to medium bubbles. Aroma of sweet caramel/toffee. Taste of very sweet caramel malt, sugary dried fruits, and an alcohol taste coming through like a liqueur. Medium body. Sweet, sugary fruits on finish.

Flat, boring malt, no good fermentation by-products (esters and higher alcohols) but plenty of signs of a weak yeast, diacetyl, flat sweet palate. Really disappointing. I’ve tried a few of Gilgamesh beers now and been up satisfied with everyone

330ml brown bottle. Hazy brown pour with a creamy and small white head. Nose has caramel/toffee. Taste has caramel/toffee, raisins, chocolate and toasted malt. Aftertaste has some caramel and mild chocolate and light herbal hops and trace of chalky yeast. A bit sweet and rather simple but I enjoyed it.

Draught at Man In The Moon, Stockholm. Clear amber/copper beer with a small offwhite head. Fruity aroma, grapes, pear notes, yeasty, spicy notes, floral, a bit earthy. Caramel flavor, lots of alcohol, spicy, grapes, raisins, some banana. A bit odd.

Pours a mostly clear copper colour with a spotty head. Aroma is rich sweet maltiness, caramel, plums, raisins, dried cherries, light clove and Kinda perfumey. Flavour is much of the same but the spiciness comes out more and there are traces of warming alcohol.

330ml bottle (Pikkulintu, Helsinki)
Sweetish malty aroma some butter cream. Smooth palate, Nicely aged, but some buttery aspects. Taste takes that to the extreme, But underthe butter it’s ver niely malty. Aged fee. Touch woody and walnutty. Kinda odd, but kinda nice. Aged well.
