COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Caution!! Taste buds and motor-vehicle drivers beware!! This Belgian style "Abbey Ale" is BIG; big on flavour, big on alcohol and big on fun. The Belgian monks didn’t muck around when they created this beer style - double the malt, double the hops, double the alcohol and logically called it "Dubbel". The Holgate Double Trouble drinks like a fine cognac or brandy - intense raisin, toffee and rum flavours, to be sipped, savoured and enjoyed together with a cheese platter or sticky-date pudding.

A very smooth (especially for an 8% alcohol percentage) beer. A nice dubbel style ale. A honey/vegemite(!) aroma, taste has some cognac in it. Very nice and smooth, but just misses a little bit of ’oomph’

Pours a dark copper color with a small head that fades to bits of lacing. Aroma of dark fruit, some roasted, bit of caramel sweetness and spices. Tatse of dark fruit some caramel sweetness with a bit of spice in the background. Mild bitterness and a clean finish. Moderate body, smooth with just a hint of the 8.0% ABV. Enjoyable sipper to relax with. Has a warming feeling that takes the edge off a cold evening

A really disappointing beer, poorly balanced and not much on the palate, such a shame.

Pours a golden colour with a white head. Aroma is sweet of fruit, prunes, raisins, caramel and hints of roastiness. Taste is pretty sweet leading to a fruity and caramel finish. Little bitterness. Pretty nice stuff.

Pours deep amber. Aroma is syrupy sweet. The flavour is overdone on candi syrup to the point that it tastes faintly of autolysis. Needs improvement

Bottle 0.33l from Pikkulintu, Helsinki. Colour is reddish copper with tiny white head. Aroma and flavour is raisins, Belgian yeast and malts. Not very complex but easy to drink.

330ml bottle pours amber in color with a small white head that leaves only a few spots of lacing on the glass. Aroma is mild with raisins and caramel. Taste is malty sweet with some fruits and a light hop bitterness with hints of yeast. Medium bodied with mild carbonation. Overall, a typical dubbel ale, but nothing really stands out.

(Bottle, 0.33 l, at Pikkulintu, 20120831) The beer poured dark brown and clear. Its head was medium sized and white. Aroma had malts, molasses and Belgian style yeast. Palate was medium bodied with medium carbonation. Flavours were malts, sweetness, molasses, Belgian style yeast, chocolate and low bitterness. Aftertaste had chocolate, malts and bitterness. A quite nice dubbel with harsh finish.
