4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
500ml bottle from Archive. Rather surprised at some of the previous ratings. This beer did it for me. Great colour and nice aroma leading to a good hoppy taste. Not too boozy for a 2IPA and thoroughly enjoyed with a feed of Thai food. I would have to say my favourite Holgate. Good beer.

4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
This was as fresh as possible. I’d tried last years offering and it wasn’t in good nick, this was though. Smooth hoppy nose over a sweet malt body. Poured a deep amber/red-brown body. Smallish head that hung around. Hoppy upfront but in a smooth combination over the crystal malt notes. Surprisingly sessional for the abv, alcohol in well hidden. A really good IPA if fresh.

3.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
12oz brown bottle, best before Jan 31, 2014. The colour of this beer is dark orange/amber. The head is whitish, small, but lasting. Nose has some rich caramel and toffee, some hops that are citrusy and piney. Overall, leans on the sweet side and lacks enough hops for me.

3.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
Pleasant deep amber poor, head lacing the glass all the way down. Aroma of malt and hops. A harsh hop aroma to me. Flavour is a subtle hops with mellow maltyness. There is a pleasant sweet malt taste at start with a good amount of bitterness on the aftertaste.

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
(Tap) Clear coppery amber with good white head. Good fall hoppy aroma. Light body nice carbonation. Lovely sweet and light start leads to an excellent big hoppy bitter finish. Overall a nicely balanced big IPA.

3 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
Pours a clear chestnut brown with a small but lasting off-white head and noticeable carbonation. Scents of lemon, malt, flowers and pine on the nose. The taste shows hop bitterness with some citurs characters. The malt backing brings a light caramel sweetness towards the end. Agree with other comments though that this is not really a double IPA. The malts are certainly amped up, but the hops are too subdued. Tasty, but not really as advertised.

2.9 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Had on tap and from the bottle. Average from both but maybe slightly better from the bottle. As people have said, a very non-descript kind of IPA. To call this a double is almost wrong, as it tastes far more like a single IPA. Too malt dominated, carbonated and thin. Not bad, being harsh though cause these guys can dobetter.

2.8 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20
330ml bottle. Pours a slightly hazy copper amber, with a smallish off-white head, which does not last all that well, but does leave decent lacing. The aroma is mainly toffee and caramel malt, with some fairly nondescript hops notes in there as well - a bad sign for a DIPA. Aggressively bitter pine needle hops up front lead into a straightforward toffee malt body. Leafy hops make up the finish. The hops flavours of this beer, whilst strong enough for a DIPA, are quite bland, and dominated by the malt. Not a great effort.

dark amber color. Touch of caramel and pine. Full bodied, but not so great.

I found this beer pretty damn good especially for an Australian brewery who IMO don’t do IPA that well. quite surprised at others low ratings. Anywho perhaps it is because it is branded as a double IPA. It does seem to be between IPA and double and maybe if branded as IPA expectations might differ?
