COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
The Holgate Hopinator takes the original concept of an IPA to the extreme, with a higher gravity to balance an outrageous hopping schedule. Delivering rich and malty caramel flavours,a dense pine hop aroma and an edgy bitter hop finish

Bottled. An amber beer with a thin beige head. The aroma has notes of butter and caramel. The flavor is sweet with notes of caramel and butter, leading to a dry buttery finish.

maneliquor (3110) - Perth, AUSTRALIA - JUL 1, 2011
Bottle from Mane Liquor. Pours amber with a small white layer for a head. Smells better than it tastes. Some ripe fruits, caramel and not a lot of hops. Not a lot going on. A mild toffee backing with a touch of hops. You can taste the alcohol - not that its a high percent or anything. I know this bottle is fresh and it just doesn’t stand up to your regular ipa

crispi (106) - AUSTRALIA - JUN 3, 2011
bottle (from the brewery). Pours with a small amout of head. Copper coloured. Not very carbonated. no late. Smooth and hugely bitter. citrus hopiness. some hint of creaminess. caramel toffeeness, but not very sweet (due to bitterness), fairly strong, therefore alcohol taste is apparent. Must admit this comes across as fairly bland.

Bottle 33 cl. Courtesy of bluebetty. Pours a clear amber with a small off-white head. Very sweet butterscotch aroma with a little citrusy hops. Medium body, very sweet caramel and butterscotch. The aroma hops are faint and even the bitterness is discreet. Poor. 150311

Deep amber and a thick creamy head > Up front aroma & taste is big malty, toffee & caramel with a floral hop background. Soft on the fiz, medium body and a dry resinous finish. OK but too malty & lacks hop character

So wanted to like this but it’s a pretty poor effort at the style. Far too dark - deep bronze rather than orange. Little or no head. Sweet and sticky aroma of quince paste, figs, passionfruit and crystal malt. Poor bottle conditioning - flat and slick, rather than creamy. Far too heavy on the crystal malt. There is some pine/mint hop cut-through but it’s struggling to edge the malt aside. Found this cloying after a bit. (330ml bottle from Platinum Cellars. BB 3/2/10)
