The Holgate Hopinator takes the original concept of an IPA to the extreme, with a higher gravity to balance an outrageous hopping schedule. Delivering rich and malty caramel flavours,a dense pine hop aroma and an edgy bitter hop finish

Bottle pour in tulip style shaker. Clear filtered, light amber color. Thin, white head with little lacing. Caramel toffee notes in aroma, with hint of pine. Light on carbonation, strong initial hop hit with distinct bitterness, but soon mellows to be relatively easy on palate with malty, smoothness. Aftertaste is sweet but a bit stronger than other Double IPA?s, at this 7% abv. Seems like a decent entry for the style.

This beer is a light copper colour and very citrus on the nose. Biscuity and citrus taste and very bitter.

Bottle bought at Stewarts Wine, Brisbane, August 2014. Almost clear golden/orange with a small white head. Very hoppy with grapefruit, some grass and pine. The finish was nicely bitter and with some warming alcohol.

Not much to look at, decent colour but little carbonation and poor/thin head. Excellent silky feel upon first drink, but an uninspiring somewhat dull taste.

Strange - the toffee/caramel malt flavour seems completely separate to the herbal hops instead of integrated together - malt dominates - not as bitter as expected (wanted more) and darker coloured (wanted less) - not to my taste - not pleasant but not awful.

From a bottle. Pours a cloudy orange, fresh malty aroma with a hint of hops, tiny white head, typical bitterness of a DIPA, smooth and worth a try.

Bottle. Deep amber with orange tinges. Delicious pine and citrus hop aromas that leap out of the glass with a heavy undercurrent of caramel based malt. The flavours are simpler, with pine based hops leading the way with some toffee malt backing. Highly drinkable for a dipa, a good or a bad thing depending on your perspective. Good in my book.

From an International Beer Shop growler. Beautifully fresh. Pours thick burnt caramel colour. And it has thick, but very nice mouthfeel. Got forward hopping. Retains wonderful citrus taste seems to evaporate sweetly at the end. Super beer without bitterness and alcohol bite. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

I had this beer when on a recent trip to the Philippines and had to bring a few bottle home. I’d put this up with any of the craft beers in the US any day. If you didn’t know this was brewed in Australia you would think it was brewed in the states. I’ll be looking for it on shelves here for sure.
