3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
500 ML bottle
Pours cola colored but settles black with some ruby hints. Good dark mocha colored head. One finger head that has good lacing and some spotty lacing.
Earthy dark fruits, bitter coffee, and vanilla bean nose. A little more earthy and gritty but lifted but the fruits quite well. Does soften up to a more dark coco powder nose.
astringent coffee taste mixed with chocolate and coco powder. Highly bitter at first but does soften up. Slightly earthy and dirty but does grow more earthy and dirty as it lead to palate.
Medium carbonation and medium bodied. Reasonably slow drinker due to the really astringent coffee feel and over the top bitterness mixed with sourness. Good imperial porter. Better than what the rankings say but the price point is rip off

4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
500ml bottle. Pours an opaque black, with a medium beige head, which lasts well and leaves decent lacing. The aroma has some similarities to an abbey dubbel, with soft toffee and faint port notes in there, as well as coffee and mild vanilla. Very mild herbal hops up front blend surprisingly well with the added vanilla, which is the dominant flavour leading into a body of coffee and cocoa. The coffee is a strong factor leading into the finish, where the Belgian malt makes its presence felt in a smooth port flavour, which blends well with both the vanilla and the coffee. There is a slightly bitter mocha aftertaste. This is a beer that could have very easily gone wrong, imperial porter being a style that is hard to get right to begin with, without adding coffee and cocoa to it. The addition of vanilla and the use of Belgian malt and candy sugar really elevate this beer to another level, however, slightly sweetening and softening it to give it a lovely soft, rounded feel. A really quality piece of brewing.

3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
Bottle. Pours jet black with large dense tan coloured head. Falls away to all bar the thinnest head with some patchy lacing. Fruity slightly metallic aromas initially before the coffee liquer and dark chocolate comes through. Very decent. Flavours are brilliant. Sweet initially before an assertive, roasted grain and hops, bitter finish. Some alcohol on the finish with plenty of hop resin. Medium creamy mouthfeel. Great beer.

4.2 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 18/20
From a 500ml bottle on 27/11/2012. Pours the darkest of amber with a big fine head. Has a strong aroma of chocolate, coffee, cocoa, vanilla, spices and a touch of soy sauce. The flavour is powerful with dark chocolate, strong dark roast coffee, some caramel, licorice and vanilla. Finishes with a very intense, slightly salty hop bitterness. The palate is creamy and carbonation average. This is possibly the biggest, most intense Aussie beer I’ve tried to date, and it’s a cracker - very complex, unusual and well balanced. Definitely a sipper. If this was produced by some US brewery with a big rep, I think the ratings for it would go through the roof. All up, an exceptional brew.

3 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
Tap at Albion: Not much on the nose but looks great. However, the flavours are fugacious and rather watery. Besides the ETOH it lacked the boldness and complexity of a good Imp/strg porter. I would much prefer it if they stuck to concocting a better flavoured beer than bump the ETOH.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Coffee, vanilla and roasted oaky touches to the aroma. Dark brown, no light gets through. A ringlet brown head. Strong bitter coffee, hints of vanilla. Very warming, seems to warm the chest.

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Pours jet black. Smells like alcoholic coffee. Flavours are more robust than I would like. The bitterness is proportionate to the alcohol content but needs more sweetness

Pours dark brown with a small head.
Nose shows soft roasted malt, coffee and faint chocolate.
Hefty flavours, more roasted malt and some bitter-sweet earthy coffee too. Some hot alcohol shows.
Too much carbonation.
Needs a bit of time to settle down.
