On tap on GABS St Kilda. Masterpiece. Aromas of chocolate, vanilla, and flowers. Taste has a sweet start, with bitter notes, and very long length. Palate is creamy, with a medium-to-full body. Black, with a frothy white head.

Smells slightly of coffee but tastes of chocolate and fruity. Very smooth for 10%, a dangerous beer.

4.2 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 18/20
From a 500ml bottle on 27/11/2012. Pours the darkest of amber with a big fine head. Has a strong aroma of chocolate, coffee, cocoa, vanilla, spices and a touch of soy sauce. The flavour is powerful with dark chocolate, strong dark roast coffee, some caramel, licorice and vanilla. Finishes with a very intense, slightly salty hop bitterness. The palate is creamy and carbonation average. This is possibly the biggest, most intense Aussie beer I’ve tried to date, and it’s a cracker - very complex, unusual and well balanced. Definitely a sipper. If this was produced by some US brewery with a big rep, I think the ratings for it would go through the roof. All up, an exceptional brew.

$12 schnooer at Deja Vu
Bloody hell this is good. My immediate reaction was to suggest this is a best local beer I had ever tried! Not quite, perhaps, but a fantastically high powered choc porter / stout in amazing balance and slurpability. Clean, clear lines of chocolate and choc orange and a hint of buzzy minerals to finish.

4.2 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
500ml bottle, poured into a snifter glass. Appearance is clear brownish black with a medium sized creamy mocha head with good retention. Aroma of roasted malts, dark chocolate, muscovado, vanilla, coffee and a hint of alcohol. Taste is light sweet with a medium bitterness. Palate is full bodied with a creamy mouthfeel and soft carbonation. Overall a great Imperial Porter, just a little too bitter, and the alcohol is slightly noticeable in the aftertaste.

Bitter cacao aroma and warm alcohol notes. What a looker this is, super fine dark tan head. Dark brown colour and a touch of ruby. Dark berries and alcohol are at the front of the taste. Some bitter chocolate but I dont get any coffee. Good body for a porter. Needs more balancing of the alcohol to be great.
